For most of my shave I only use my left hand. I only use my right hand to do against the grain on the left side off neck and face

I started using preshave oil at first because i thought I needed it. I've learned now that it doesnt make much of a difference without it, but I like the sensation of 2 of the oils I have so I use them both strictly for that. One is Shave Secret, i love the smell and tingliness of the clove and another that i just discovered gives me the same tingly feeling and has a sort of menthol scent. It's called Somersets and I really enjoy it as well. So if anything, that is why i use them, for their scents and sensation.

Amazon.com: Pro Shave Shaving Cream 8 oz.: Health & Personal Care

My local barber told me about this, they use it before hot towels or lather. Just a thin film on a dry face, let it absorb a bit then lather. I like it alot. When you think about it, a barber doesn't have the luxury of shaving a face fresh out of a hot shower, like we do, so they need some help to start.

Tried oils and proraso cream and neither did anything....well, the oil messes up the sink, and makes your hands slippery.
