Steam Towell
Ladies and gentlemen:
If using a hot towel, I hold it under the hot water faucet, wring the towel, and place it on my Hollywood face. It is simple and it works for me.
Of course, there is no right or wrong way of preparing the hot towel. The best is that which works best for the individual shaver.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 4Just a little update regarding my Steam Cooker test!
If I'm honest, the results were not as I were expecting. I first tried a dry towel in the steam cooker for 15 minutes, when the 15 minutes were up the towel was initially hot but rapidly cooled so it would not be of any use. Seeing as a dry towel didn't work I went with the wet towel approach, I saturated the towel and then wrung all excess water out of it 'till it was damp, again I put it in the steam cooker for another 15 minutes, the results this time were better, the towel stayed hotter for a bit longer but not long enough to achieve the desired effect!
Personally, I beleive the best way of 'steaming' a towel is to do it how Obie said in the previous post!
Mark.

Thanked: 6I read once when I was trying improve my shaves that water soaked into beard hairs will allow them to be cut better. The numbers that I recall are soaking for 2 min will swell hairs 25 percent, 5 min 33 percent and that's about the limit.

Thanked: 235I don't bother with a steamed towel. I just use the steam room at the gym and steam my whole body.

What kind of steam cooker did you use? I've done this exact method with a vegetable steamer, and after 10 minutes the towel was too hot to handle and I had to pick it up by a corner and shake it to release the excess steam before I could put it on my face. It worked really well, and the vegetable steamer was small enough to keep in the bathroom, but I have since switched over to the cold water shave and no longer do this.
EDIT: This is the steamer I used:Last edited by GoingPostal; 02-21-2010 at 04:35 PM.

Thanked: 4I used a steamer similar to that but I found the towel cooled to quickly, maybe I'll give it another try and see what the results are.
Thank you, Mark.

Well I've tried the microwave method, and I've got to say I'm converted, it still takes a bit of juggling with the hot towel, but saves wringing out.
I bought some new guest towels 65 x40 and have to say I've had the best wet shave since using the straight razor
