Hi Andrevs20 your not the first person I have come across who has been uncertain about how to use a shaving mug. They say a picture is worth a 1000 words so just for you.
The Brush goes in the big spout where the hot water is to warm the brush and the soap, you load the brush with soap and face lather or if you like it a bit warmer I have my bowl and cup which it placed in the sink while filling with hot water and the cup would be filled with hot water. The bowl sits on top and every thing gets warm.
I hope that clears it up for you

Thanked: 7Evin, In the scuttle on the right, would the brush be sitting in warm water when its like that?

Yes the brush would be sitting in the warm water before use and then dipped in as required during use this would be when you would be face lathering. I mostly bowl lather and just use it to warm up the brush before making a lather. Also I do not store my brushes in the mug but put them on brush stands to dry out.

Speaking of dirty bird scuttles, I bought a green brush scuttle off of a forum member. I'm really enjoying it. They say it's for those who like to face lather, and that is true, but it works for people who bowl lather as well. That's because even after I bowl lather, I apply the soap or cream and begin the first pass. The brush rests in the brush scuttle and stays warm before my second and third pass lathers. It does create an extra piece of pottery to wash out and adds an element to the process but having warm soap and brush throughout the shave is well worth the trouble.

Has anyone tried the Truefitt & Hill scuttles? They are pricey, no doubt, but they do look damned fine! Truefitt & Hill - Mugs
Would those be considered an old style scuttle or a new style?

Thanked: 7So I received a DB scuttle the other week, it was the larger size, I belive it is th3 1.5. an i am really enjoying the warm lather. But I found if i just fill her up with water, my lather is cold by the end of my shave. So during my pre shave, I'm submerging my scuttle it hot water to make the whole piece hot. And its been working out pretty nicely for me.

Here's what I do, I pre heat my DB scuttle with hot tap water, then microwave 2 cups of water, cold for 2 mins...during that time, I do my pre shave stuff, When the water's done, I dump out the scuttle, and add the micro water. I find it stay's nice and warm throughout my shave.
We have assumed control !
