Thanked: 7I shower at night and shave in the morning. No hot towel or anything for a pre shave, it irritates my skin.

Thanked: 2We are such creatures of habit .
My night routine (slow shaver and unwilling to wake up early to shave) -
1. Strop
2. Shower (Aveeno daily face scrub)
3. Place bowl and brush in hot sink
4. Apply pre-shave oil
5. Contemplate day, life
6. Whip up lather and shave
7. Post shave ritual (cold rinse, Aveeno daily moisturizer, light strop and storage)
Plus to this - I take melatonin to sleep so I take it immediately prior to this ritual. By the time I'm storing everything up I'm relaxed enough to get to bed. Face is clearer than ever.
Negatives - My roommates hate that I'm in the bathroom for 40 minutes every night.

I too take my showers at night and shave in the morning. I love the feeling of a good shower before going to bed between a pair of nice, clean sheets. I can say though that my shave prep is usually minimal, but damn do I use the heck out of my lathering brush! I love the feeling of light-to-moderate lathering on my face, slowly building up the perfect consistency of warm soap on the face before a shave. I believe that it is the time I spend massaging my beard with my lathering brush and warm water that makes she shaving process smoother. While I don't use many products to prep my shaves, I believe that you can get just as good of a result with only a good, hearty lather and beard rub.

Nope...Me Either
My showers are usually at night and shaves are almost always in the morning. I work 12 hours a day (minimum), seven days a week plus I work out 3-5 times a week in the morning before going to work. Therefore, I try and relax with a shower at the end of the day and start my day off relaxed with a str8 razor shave. The shower facilities we have out here are "community facilities" in that there are trailers that have been outfitted with sinks, toilet stalls and showers that are avaialble for common use with sleeping quarters that are seperate. Therfore, they don't have to incur the expense of running plumbing since water is delivered to fewer, more centralized external tanks. Anyway. I rinse off my face in the a.m. with warm to hot water (depending on how much hot water is left) to get it clean (it's dusty out here too) and moisten the whiskers. I then slather on baby oil and massage it into the whiskers followed by the application of lather whipped up in my bowl with the brush. My goal with the lather is to get a whipped up egg whites consistency, much like a merengue (sp) or whipped cream. From there I shave with my Dovo Best Quality Blond courtesy of SRD and Lynn. After I shave WTG and ATG, I rinse the lather that is left with warm/hot water followed by a cold rinse at the end to contract the skin. I've been thinking about doing the cold rinse between passes to see if I can get the remaining whiskers to stand a bit taller through contracting the skin. Anyway...last but not least, once the shave is finished, I go back to my room and splash on some Bay Rum or Joop (if it's Sunday...lol) and get going to tackle the day. Hope this helps.

It depends on when I shave really.
Due to moving house I'm temporarily back with my parents who live out of London. As a result I'm up at 5.30 to get into work on time, so I shave in the evening at the moment. So I dont have a shower first, but I do use way more hot towels than I used to for my post shower morning shaves!

I almost always shower before shaving.
When I don't, I still wash my face really good, lather, then strop, then shave. Usually I strop > shower > lather > shave.

Most of the time I shower to get the whiskers soft and the skin clean. I then proceed to strop, apply some proraso pre shave cream, lather and shave....can't get any better than that. HOG

I never shower before shaving. Ever. In fact, I never shower at all. I'm a bathtub guy. To me, showers are violent, noisy, invasive, disturbing. Yeah, very strange, I know. I've been known to check out of a motel/hotel if they only have a shower and no tub. But that's really off the topic. I shave in the evening and use a hot washcloth with soap followed by either Lubriderm or Noxema (the creme in a jar, not the shaving creme) and then lather up and go for it.

Thanked: 270Medium Round Ceramic Shaving Scuttle with Lid ~NEW~ - eBay (item 220680907886 end time Nov-08-10 14:39:02 PST)
To get my shave in, I have to do it before I shower. With the above-referenced scuttle with a special place to soak or dip the brush in hot water I can skip the pre-shave prep with the toasty warm lather I can whip up and brush on to my face.
My tap water doesn't get hot enough and I use an electric kettle to warm it up. Because of that I can't change the water. If you have the same problem I highly recommend this scuttle with a special area to take care of the brush.
