I have a tub of Proraso soap, I've used it and it is just as good as the cream. I would recommend anything by Proraso, everything is great.

The green tub is, IMHO the best of the line for my str8 shaving. It's cooling (menthol + eucalyptol), protecting, hydrating, long-lasting, and easy to lather. Plus, it's the most protective of the range, and it also comes in a smaller, flatter puck for travel.
About the rest of the range:
* Green tube (cream): second-best product, excellent for DE shave, but not as protective as the soft soap.
* White tub: I've tried it many times, and despite what it says about "sensitive skin" I have not been satisfied with the results. Not enough protection, thin lather, I even got irritations. So I gave it to the GF for her legs.
* Red cream: not available anymore
* Canned foam: I began the Proraso madness with the foams (Green or White) and at the time I was surprised by how good it was. Red used to be produced in canned foam as well. For days when that's all you can find and you want to avoid the other brands.
* Green pre/post: my favorite, but I prefer it as a post rather than a pre. Doesn't do much to soften my beard, but then I only shave after shower, so my stubble is prepped anyway. Perhaps it's useful when you don't shower before. But it's the best aftershave balm you can find. Even more protective than the Proraso liquid balm, and a necessity if you mess up.
* White pre/post: same issues as white tub (not satisfied, not protective enough), went to the same GF for the same purpose...
* Aftershave splash (Green dopobarba): it's the best and cheapest aromatic fougère around, cools you off, tingles a bit, and makes you a man. I like to put it on, but I combine with...
* Aftershave balm: my go-to balm, an equal to Nivea, works for everything except seriously bad shaves (use pre/post in this case). Combines very nicely with Pino Silvestre AS splash if you are in for a change.

+1 on Proraaso soap in the green tub. It's my go-to soap on the cheap!

Wow, thanks for the info MHV. Really helps as I was debating between the white and green pre/post and was considering purchasing the white soap. I think I'll pass on it now and maybe save my money for a different purchase. I do love the green soft soap. Only soap I'm using right now.

I agree with the previous posts. You can't go wrong with the Proraso creams and soaps. I began my De razor shaving with Proraso (green) and continued using it when I began straight razor shaving.
I have used both the cream and the soap/cream in the tub. Although I prefer the tube for most of my shaving needs, I highly recommend the tub. I even have the small tub for travel."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Thanked: 4Why are all the Canadians using proraso lol?
Seems like thats the only brand they sell at Shopper drug mart.
I could only find the Omega fake ivory boar bristle brush and the white and green proraso soaps. Brush kinda stinks the first time you use it.
Works pretty well though, though its the only thing I've used. I can make thick lathers with it. The green proraso is pretty decent, relatively cheap and nice cooling effect. Recommended.Last edited by drgreen; 03-17-2011 at 02:52 PM.

Thanked: 0I started out with the green Proraso tube. Then I went to Shoppers one day and was able to buy the green and white tubs along with both pre shaves. I love them and I still have them but I have put them on the back shelf while I use my other favourite soaps - Palmolive, La Toya, P.160 (another Italian soap), and Benton Clay.

Thanked: 1195Because it is one of the only reliable sources for a shaving product discussed regularly on wetshaving forums. It is also, IMHO, the best of the "budget" shaving soaps.
Conversely, I guess I could ask why all the Americans use Van der Hagen? Likely for similar reasons I would assume. Perhaps if it were available in Canada Proraso would have a run for its money...
(Please note I'm being light hearted; this is not a jab at our American friends, just pointing out that different places have different availabilities)

I use prorasso too, its the soap I started on and I have the cream. I often mix it with Mitchell's wool fat to get in my opinion the best lather around.
