Thanked: 8Astroglide as a pre-shave.
I can only imagine the comments this post will bring, but I have started using the "personal lubricant" Astroglide as a pre-shave treatment, applied before lathering. I tried several oils, but they all seemed to mess up my soap and brush and were hard to clean up. Astroglide is very slick and, as it's water soluble, cleans up easily. In fact, I sometimes reapply it after the first pass before relathering. It can be found in the family planning section of most pharmacies and at Walmart.

I dont think anyone is going to harp on ya. from what I've read everyone preaches whatever works for you. I still clean up my chin and lower neck with a fusion 5 blade monstrosity.

The veterans here advise with caution not to attempt to catch a falling razor. That caution might extend now to not attempting to pick it up either.

IIRC, there is at least one other thread about the use of similar products for shaving applications. If it works, it works.

I think you've inspired me! I rushed right out and bought a tube of it. It is written on the tube that it is "Bedroom Tested". That might not work for me because I shave in the bathroom, but I'll still give it a whirl. I can't wait to get home and give it a try............on my face that is.

haha this has to be one of the most unique threads I've seen in my short time on SRP. It does make sense though, more power to you!

RoadKill,
Yup 'personal' lubes work fine, as do any of the gels based around the sames types of gelling agents. I have used 'KY', Aloe Vera gel etc, and all are good and slick.
In addition if you add these gels to a shaving lather, they will thicken it up as well as adding a bit more slip.
Experimenting with such things is part of the enjoyment of shaving
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
