Thanked: 37I've tried adding gliceryn in drops and it works, also applying it to my face, and works also. Now I am using it (for more than a month) 50/50 with grapeseed oil as a pre-shave I apply after the hot water application. It works great this way. I plan to try almond and avocado oil also i this mixture.

I am adding glycerin to my lather and I have always been happy with add. I also add extravirgin olive oil or argan oil and I am happy with that, too. Glycerin can turn a good soap into a magnificent creamy lather. And it is very cheap: I usually pay 2 euros (around 2.30 USD) for a 100ml bottle.

Thanked: 4Just started using it last week and I love it. Could be placebo effect but I do feel it creates a smoother shave and a barrier for your skin.

Definitely! Moreover the razor glides excellently on your skin. Less irritation (although I rarely get an irritation with a straight razor) and smoother skin.

I gave it a shot this morning. The consistency was a little different; I'll have to play around with the amounts. I added 4 drops to the top of my shaving soap along with the hot water I usually add.

Try adding the glycerin before you start mounting the lather in the bowl. I usually add 5-6 drops and then add soap and use the brush.

Thanked: 3228Yea, my daily routine is to put a little hot water on my Cella and let it sit while I strop. I then pour that water into my scuttle, add a snerdle of whatever other shave cream I want to use that day, 6 drops of glycerine and one of lanolin. Take my presoaked brush that has been shaken to get the water out and swirl it in the Cella. Take the brush loaded with Cella to the scuttle and mix it all together. It looks watery at first but after about 30 seconds it explodes into lather and a bit more lathering gets it creamy. Never been disappointed with that method.

glycerin is part of all my soaps as the natural product of saponification.
removal of glycerin from soaps (by mfg's) is part of what makes commercial soaps suck.
