    Default My own pre-shave oil

I bought a pre-shave oil from a very highly regarded web site. I won't tell you which because I don't want to get in trouble! And beside it's beyond the point. The point however is that after using it for a while with rather good results and being my self an aromatherapy aficionado, the more I used it the more the I seemed to understand what was in it or at least how could I get the same kind of texture from an oil blend.

I came up with my own blend. I'm not saying that this blend has the same components of the one I bought at a rather high price but it has pretty much the same texture and effect when apply as a pre-shave oil.

I expect that this type of blend it's not going to come as a surprise to many of you as I know well this site if full of very knowledgeable people when it comes to all the secrets of fine shaving but may be it might help one or two newer members like my self.

All I did was to blend olive oil with almond oil and add few drops of basil essential oil. Almond oil is very light and easy to absorb and when you mix it with olive oil all it does is to make the olive oil, which is great for your skin, less heavy and easier to apply. The basil oil just gave the blend a bit of a refreshing kick that I liked, but don't use too much because is very strong.

Play around with amounts depending of how light or how heavy you want your oil.

I'm now using it every day for a fraction of what I used to pay for a pre-shave product and at lest for me, I found it to be as effective as some of the best I have come across.

I hope this is going to be of any help to some one!

    All the best

I did the same as you. I also throw in some castor oil as well. I have a few essential oils I use to change the aroma when I prepare a new batch.

Way to reverse engineer! I love doing that stuff, I used castor oil, almond oil, olive oil and grapeseed oil in mine. I found the grapeseed oil really improved the feeling of my skin after the shave also.
I made a pre-shave balm as well, now all the guys at work use this instead of oil, it turned out really good.

I use a base of Noxzema(2oz size) and add 5ish drops of each: grape seed oil; almond oil; tea tree oil; and glycerine to it. Works well as a preshave.

That sounds like an awesome preshave balm. I make mine similar to that but I also use some pure coconut oil, it helps thicken it up a bit and is great for the skin.

Cool, thanks for the recipes. Question for anyone: Olive oil is of course good stuff for skin and innards, but I find the smell of my extra virgin a little too strong to rub under my nose. Any recommendations on a light, clean olive oil with little odor that will do the trick?

For a pre-shave oil, don't use extra virgin, use regular olive oil (the scent is barely noticeable on this stuff as it is 3rd pressing +). The EVOO has that strong scent and wonderful flavor and that's why it is so pricey (Most quality EVOO comes from the 1st pressing only and yields much less oil, but it is of a much higher quality).

Thanks for the great information! I am a true newb - stepping from cartridges to a DE for the first time tomorrow (it is out for delivery today). I love this idea and would like to implement it - Carlos, can you give me a starting point on how much of each oil you are using? Is it just equal parts olive oil and almond oil? Are you mixing this up daily, or storing it long term in a bottle?

    Thanks again,
    Ritchy
