Thread: What is your preshave routine?

strop or hone and strop the razor i just got the night before. dream of the shave . choose then soak brush.
shower, choose soap or cream , figure out how to shave better than i did last time and find why my last hone and strop was good or bad, but, still enjoy my man time

Today was a cool water splash

A touch of homemade pre shave oil,

Cool water lather (SRD Vetiver) and go.


Some days I shower and do a hot prep. I may use pre shave I may not, I get a close comfortable shave many ways.

I believe technique is as important as prep and some of it is to just push it to the next level,

or maybe just spoil ourselves, either way I enjoy the ritual and the shaves.

I used to have elaborate preshave routines. I travel for a living and I found the shaves I got in the hotel, where the only routine was semi hot towels (hotel water only gets so hot), was just as good as the ones I got at home, where I was prepping much more. The best prep you can have is a well honed razor and one that is well stropped. And a proper lather. Happy shaves.

Mine is really basic. I use the brush to wash my face with hot water and then lather up. Sometimes if I've been away camping and haven't shaved for a few days, I'll lay a face washer soaked in hot water on my face for 30 seconds or so before using the brush. I always shave before I shower.

cold rinse
tea tree oil
every man jack face lotion
total time: 35 min...still trying to lower that time down to 20 min. without hacking and slashing my face into a hemorraghe

1. Soak brush in hot water.
2. Wash face with soap and water and use astringent (I have oily skin).
3. Strop, 25/50.
4. Make lather (I use Proraso soap).
5. Re-wet face and lather up.
6. Shave WTG, XTG, ATG.
7. Rinse with cold water and apply alum, leave on for 30 seconds.
8. Rinse again, apply Proraso pre-post cream.
9. Apply Proraso aftershave.
10. Apply talc.

Shower, soap face, strop, shave. Pretty simple.

Coffee (1 cup), shower, strop, lather, & shave.

Point! Good point!!

Yeah all said and done, just about everything can change in the old line-up BUT the coffee. Got to have the coffee first off, or the shave is off lol .
