Take a squizz here Ed. http://straightrazorpalace.com/gener...tructions.html
Wherever you see instructions re shaving one theme is constant. Lots of lathering & a flat-ish approach with no pressure.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Oh, crap, I misread your post. You even said shave cream in your post.

Even still, being relatively new myself, it makes me glad to hear success stories.

Again, glad you found a solution, and enjoy the journey!

I don't want to sound arrogant or anything; we're all learners, but I think it's really important that beginners help beginners.
After a while, you forget the issues you had as a beginner and the solutions to those issues...

Having said that, I have near perfect skin and have never had razor burn. I did get a weeper the other day, but that was because I honed my Swedish frameback to sillystupid sharp level and forgot to add in some smooth...
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Hi Carl, hope this doesn't mean you thought the tone of my reply was inappropriate, it wasn't meant to be, and I did post a further reply after this, or am I just being overly sensitive/insecure :-)

Oh, by no means am I a seasoned veteran of the straight shave world...

I simply meant that I thought that edhewitt had been using shave soap instead of shave cream (which, had I been reading more carefully, I would have caught), and maybe needed to mix his lather a bit wetter. Also, still being new myself (not quite 90 days in), it's super encouraging to me to hear successes that new straight shavers have.

I meant no offense and hope I didn't come off as a know-it-all... If I did, I certainly apologize.

I am pretty good with the prep now, and am by no means scared of adding more lather to my face, I think that I need to work on the angle mostly. As most of the problems I have are on the right side of my face, and me being very left handed it can be bit awkward with the angles, once I am more confident with my left hand I will have a go with my right :-).

I'm getting confused. I was just sort of supporting crouton by wanting to encourage him to continue to help others even though he said he was new to it all. I commenced MY post by saying I hope I didn't sound arrogant, because the Mentor tag thing is just an accident really; it doesn't mean I know a lot or anything; it's just because I was supposed to get off my bot bot and write a Wiki article.

Anyway, main point is everybody loves everybody :-)

Nah, a hug, I'm a bit pissed and so a hug is OK...
