Thanked: 1184They both had the same basic ingredient . Alcohol :<0) Those were simple times with simple solutions. Now you get poison and because it only kills 49 out of a 100 rats it's considered less the 50% chance it will kill you. That is acceptable as long as you don't find out.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 1195These old ads remind me of the sage advice for pregnant women in Britain decades ago - a pint of Guinness a day makes for a healthy baby!
I'm sure back then more than a few ladies followed their doctor's orders lol

Thanked: 995I was doing charity medicine and our pharmacy ran out of iron tablets to treat anemia.
I prescribed Guiness. Circa 1998. It works.
Alcohol in pregnancy is frowned upon generally now.“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power.” R.G.Ingersoll

Thanked: 4I actually prefer these old ads. It's nice sometimes to see a well-spoken (or written) attempt to recommend a product without recourse to irony, cynicism, celebrity endorsement, stupid jingles and graphics, or attempts to create disingenuous associations. I can't vouch for their honesty and know there was plenty of deception, but the first ad at least doesn't seem all that false.
Prior to the 1940's infection was a serious issue that could result in death, and if the product was mostly alcohol then it would do almost everything they claim it does: eliminate germs, have a mild analgesic effect on razor burn, get rid of bad breath and work as an astringent. The only lie is that it softens your skin when it actually dries your skin.
