I could review the nivea and SV separately I suppose, but feel SV 70th is covered already.

Thanked: 2Growing up I used After Shaves and liked the smell of a few and hated a few. Mostly they aggravated my sinuses like crazy. In the last few months since I took up straight razor shaving I have played around with a few home brews. I tried to make an aftershave wax that failed miserably, the ingredients didn't blend properly and I was left with an inconsistent nice smelling soft wax with little hard jewels in it. I will probably make it more like a balm next time I try. However, what I have found that I am currently liking a lot is a splash of witch hazel and a few drops of lavender oil. I still get a few nicks, especially when I try a different approach to my neck or whatever. This combination helps to keep the bleeding down and the razor burn non existent. The very best part of it is when I finish shaving and come to the bed my wife says did you just shave? I say yes, and she replies well you smell fabulous. Hey, skin not red and bumpy, nicks stop bleeding fairly quickly and are gone by morning, my wife likes the smell, and my nose doesn't start weeping because of it. I'll take it.
I am still looking at ways of making these the primary in a balm or oil for aftershave purposes.

Thanked: 250I can't think of a funny story about aftershaves. What I can tell you though is something I never heard of until I joined this forum and that is Extra Virgin Olive Oil...........EVOO. I think it was mentioned in the Mastro Livi thread that the Italians use it after a shave. Well, I gave it a try and I'm sold on it. The stuff left my skin feeling so supple I couldn't believe it and no bad odor that would clash with my cologne. So thank you Straight Razor Place, my face appreciates it.
