In praise of Witch Hazel
I realize how much I have come to rely on Witch Hazel as a way to cap off my shave. Indeed I apply it to my face and neck and even behind my ears...and my skin has never looked and felt so good. I have all the Thayers flavours, but it seems I rely on Dickinsons WH that I buy from Walmart as my daily splash (less expensive than Thayers). I even put some in a small spray bottle and use a few squirts as my deodorant. This is one of those wonder products that serves many purposes. I can't imagine a shave without my trusted WH. I did some reading and it turns out the WH has been around as a herbal remedy for a long time.

I use Dickinson's probably 5 days out of 7. I only skip it if the aftershave of the day already has WH in the blend.

I use WH after every shave for a few months now. It helps sooth the skin a touch before the A.S. Goes on. I too use the Thayers but dont have the walmart stuff. I might have to pick-up some to try it out. Thayers is not really expensive but if I can go cheeper I will.
It's just Sharpening, right?

I use Thayer's three or four times a day. It is much less drying than a fresh AS in the pm.
Amazon Prime has Thayer's in a 3 pack of 12oz bottles for $22.65. That price has jumped. The last time I ordered the 3 pack it was $18.If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Thanked: 4249Personally been using Witch Hazel for years now, I don't use any pre shave stuff or aftershave. Just plain Witch Hazel after the shave. I find my skin not so dry in winter season, and its very traditional.

It's Witch Hazel for me too after the shave. I just splash it on and let it soak in or dry while I'm putting away my stuff and doing my post-shave stropping. Leaves the skin really nice and comfortable.

Dickinsons is the main name in WH. It's been around forever and it's good stuff just that it's more a general purpose astringent with 1001 uses. The Thayers contains other ingredients and is better for shaving. They even make a specific shave version which contains a good charge of alcohol. I use that one.
Just stay away from the store brands. They are cheap but though they don't say it are very watered down.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
