Thanked: 586Truly Crappy Bay Rums
I had no idea there were so many Bay Rums. Never having used Bay Rum I always thought there was only one. You know, like Aramis, Drakkar Noir, Old Spice and Bay Rum. But NOOOOOOO! There are many of these concoctions and they are all supposed to come from the Carribean islands but I have a sneaking suspicion that a great many of these bottles are filled directly from the penis of a horse. Now the horse may be in the West Indies but the stuff in these bottles is still horse piss:
I know the like or dislike of a fragrance is a very subjective thing. However these Bay Rums are al alcohol, water and fragrant stuff. They all burn like Hell when applied to a freshly shaven face and the scent is gone the instant the alcohol evaporates. Does anyone have any crappy concoctions they'd like to list here in this thread of warning to those who don't want to drop any money on inferior products? Or maybe someone wants to speak up in defence of one or more of these (the Dominican Lime may have some supporters).

interesting the only one there i have tried is the Dominica and it smells great! i think gssixgun has a thread on bay rums laying about in the review section.
my favorite bay rum is from Taylors though
the alcohol burn is probably from too much pressure when you shave... these products should all have a nice cooling sensation as the alcohol evaporates...
the citrocol ... is a lime a/s so it should not smell like bay rum...Be just and fear not.

Thanked: 586Note this Dominica is lime and it is quite different than the non-lime Dominica. Yes gssixgun did a very informative thread singing the praises of various Bay Rums. Here I am offering warnings on what after shave type products can be considered a waste of money.
Oh yeah, notice the label on the Citrocol says it comes from the St. Lucia Bay Rum Company. That's Bay Rummy enough for me to include it here.Last edited by icedog; 05-13-2008 at 03:17 AM.

But I do detect a pattern here....
And I suggest that next time, you make sure the horse has not been wandering about the lime grove.....

Thanked: 586I like the smell of the Dominica, sans lime too. I also like the smell of the McLas you can see in the picture but it has faded to a memory before I can get the cap back on the bottle and for my money that is crappy.

Thanked: 13245Scent is a personal thing so I couldn't help ya there, if you like the Bay Rum scent in general and you are looking for a longer lasting one I would recommend the Capt. Smith's, Ogalalla, or the Clubman brands...
These will never last as long as say Drakkar or any other cologne, just because they are AS's not cologne's...
They are basically 2 types of bay rums to my nose
The Island style which most fall into this category, and the what I call the Cowboy or Western style....
the Island style is a crisp clean scent like Dominica, Royall, Pusser's etc:
The Western is a heavier more clove scent like the Ogalalla
Personally I haven,t met a Bay Rum I don't like, but thats just me, there are some I like better than others....but to tell you what my nose likes does no good whatsoever.
The Royall is the standard in my eyes, probably because I remember buying that stuff for my pops for at least the last 45 years, that and Old spice were his AS of choice....
