TOBS... divine. The scent is addicting. To me it is. But it's expensive so I use it sparingly.
As a substitute I buy 'sweet oil' which is nothing else but an Olive oil emollient and it does n excellent job at a fraction of the cost.
Yes, plain old olive oil. Works wonders.

Thanked: 235I prefer to use a cheap hair conditioner while I'm in the shower and then wash it off just before I face lather. I have tried using a preshave oil but found it to be one too many things to have to carry to the bathroom (can't leave any of my stuff in the bathroom or else my in-laws will get to it)

I've used most of the major brands out there, but what works best for me is hair conditioner. Whatever I am using at the time. I apply it to my face before using the hot towel. I leave a film of it on my beard under my lather.
I have found nothing better. .and, it's cheap!

Thanked: 293My Italian bloodline has provided me with a percentage olive oil blood content naturally, so I don't find the need for adding pre-shave oil to my routine.

I do the exact same thing, a real cheap vanilla hair conditioner while showering. I would be interested in trying some pre-shave products...i just have no idea where to start. The cooling sensation of certain things dont really appeal to me because they take away from the warm lather feeling from my scuttle.

Thanked: 6I've been using the Gentleman's Refinery pre-shave oil. It's ok, honestly some days I forget it, and I'm not sure I notice much of a difference. Smells nice, like lime. I bought the TSA sized version to try it out at $12, it lasted maybe 2 or 3 months?

I like to use a pre-shave oil when I want to shave without first taking a shower.
I will first wash my face and then apply a few drops of oil and allow the oil to soak in. I apply the oil before I heat my water for my scuttle and making lather. Once everything is ready, I will use a hot towel on my face. Once the towel cools down, I'm ready to shave. The hot towel reduces the oily feel and allows me to stretch my skin without any problems.
I have only tried two pre-shave oils. The pre-shave from Truefitt+ Hill and I use the shaving oil from Shave Secret as a pre-shave. I don't think Shave Secret is marketed as a pre-shave but it works nicely.
I find this method to be the best shave prep for me.
