I use Musgo Real pre-shave oil, as well as my own mix of castor/grapeseed/jojoba oil. I also use the oil cleansing method on my face:

I use a homemade concoction of castor,olive & grapeseed oils w/ lime oil for scent. Only a few drops. Sometimes I'll do a hot towel, others no.

One great trick is to use Dr. Bronner's soap in the shower as a face wash--immediately dissolves all the waterproofing oils surrounding the beard. Then the hot water can go to work.

A trick I picked up while getting shaved at Truefitt and Hill Las Vegas when it was in Caesars was doing an oil pass following the lather passes over the tricky areas. It makes your face feel real smooooth!

Thats my favorite used properly it real does leave it smoooooth

50% Extra Virgin Olive Oil, things of living in Spain.
50% Pure Jojoba Oil.
Any of you tried?
Concerns, please.

Hmm.. I don't know, I think I'm becoming anti-shaving oil.

1. It seemed to cause me to break out.
2. It seems expensive, and it goes quick compared to balm/soap etc.
3. I really didnt notice any improvement over using a water-base.
4. It leaves your brush oily.

I was using The Gentleman's Refinery pre-shave.

I liked the feel of shave oil. And how it made my skin feel.

However, when I have used it, I have always been foiled in getting a true BBS shave. The oil makes the whiskers too slippery, or some thing or 'nother. Never as close as lather alone.

I stopped using it.

I think that the main problem here is my lack of experience. Maybe all these tricks disguise my not really advanced skills. I think that when I know how to make the most of my hand and lather I will be able to skip oils.
On the other side, I read different opinions based on scientific arguments and they all seem to be right.
A bit confused so far.

UPDATE: Found a problem--grapeseed oil! I noticed this treatment was causing me also to break out. Made me look 10 years younger & not in a good way... Did some research & found castor & olive oils no problem (0/3), but the grapeseed scored 2/3 for pore clogging in some comedogenic testing (big website listing oils used in commercial cosmetics--I forget what it was). Replaced it w/ avocado oil (0/3) & no problems. I once again look my age.

I use T&H pre-shave oil religiously. Hot shower. 2 drops of pre-shave in the palm. I rub my hands together and then spread it over my face.
For me, this works. I just get a better shave when I do it this way.
Its been that way since the first time I used it.
