Oiling my beard before shaving appears as a clear adventage to me. Nevertheless, my process is different:
1.- Hot shower.
2.- Fine home made hydrating soap to clean my face.
3.- Two minutes of hot water and finger massage on my whiskers before leaving the shower.
4.- Oil applying on my wet and warm face before every single pass.
With the new routine you specify, cleaning is carried out by oil and water. Should I skip soap then?
Which of these procedures you conside rmore efective?
Sounds interesting for me.
Happy thanksgiving day.

Soap, by nature, strips oils from the skin. The OCM is a cleansing method that also conditions the skin.
The castor oil is the key, it is a mild humectant.

Hi there, I think your current routine should be fine. From what I have learnt it is the castor oil that does the cleansing, the other oils are carrier agents and conditioners.
Maybe you could try the olive + jojoba for a while and add some castor oil and see how that works for you.

Cristobal,
I do not have any experience in applying oil(s) before each pass.
I use the OCM primarily as a cleansing process. I would say that the oils are at least 90% rinsed off by the time I leave the shower. I apply lather to my wet face & leave it to soak while I continue to load my brush with product. I then rinse my face with hot water, at this point the oil is non existent.
I now begin my shave.

I have had great results with l'occitaine pre shave oil ,but this has become hard to get in the U.K.
The last week I have been using Poraso sensitive pre shave cream with fantastic results .So much so that this is now part of my permanent shave routine .
A little goe's a long way ,I use trumpers sandalwood skin food as a finish & this is again the best stuff fore me .
Cheers Paul

Thanked: 6Does anyone have any experience with the Castle Forbes pre-shave? The Gentleman's refinery left my brush oily and caused me to break out a bit. But this is 'not an oil' so I figured it might be worth a try.

Fervent defender of oils and pre shave systems, I have been using jojoba and a mix of 50$ jojoba/olive oil as a pre shave formula with success.
Last shave I decided to try a plain and single product shave. I forgot of pre ceremony and also of uberlathering with cream and soap plus glycerin.
I obtained the same or merely the same result using La Toja cream alone. I will try to ensure this new procedure in order to use the simplest shaving one.
I guess that if I had such a great result with a medium level cream, using a top shelf cream (or soap) alone will make my shave easier and simpler.
Concerns, please.
