    The "Thai Crystal" product is the right stuff (Potassium Alum). This is what it looks like (Amazon image):

    Comes in other forms but this one is nice because the plastic base makes a nice handle.

    I stand it on its head when not in use so any water in the base will drain out.

    I also use it for its intended purpose as a deodorant. Should last about a year.

    ^ This is what I use. No need to pay twice the price for alum blocks.

    My feeling exactly!!

    Who needs two separate alum blocks, when you can spend that money towards having (more than) two razors, (more than) two strops, (more than) two brushes, and (more than) two stones??

    That is some good info. I wanna try an Alum block but I dont think ill be using it on my face AND pits. Some times I reapply in the middle of the day... I mean I consider myself a funky dude but I don't want to smell like it!

    You won't. Just rinse it with cold water after every use. But even if you get it specifically for shaving, it is still a better deal than alum block, and more convenient for travel, etc. too.

    you mean theres something out there that actualy stings more than potasium alum? is that possible?
