Thanked: 30Is Alum the same stuff as....
.....those deodorant "crystal" sticks that they sell in health food stores?
I thought I saw reference made somewhere else here that eluded to those things being the same?
Hoping so, since health food stores are easier to come by then any brick and mortar stores that know or sell anything to do with wet shaving. At least here. And, I'm thinking I might benefit from the use of am alum block.

They're not always the same. The stuff we use is Potassium Alum. Many of the deodorants are the same stuff, but others are Ammonium Alum, & best avoided for shaving uses. It'll probably work just as well, but sting like crazy!
