Some liquid smoke is made from good BBQ smoke
but it goes a LONG way. So does natural smoke
for that mater (a little goes a long way).

It is important to know that taste differes a
lot. For some cilantro tastes more like soap
than anything else and a little can wreck
a meal for those folk.

I think that tar soap would be the one for you. It is quite common here, usually used by men only. The scent is really nice. I use it as face and hand soap and as a shampoo as well but never thought of trying to make a lather of it. Will surely try and tell how it went.

wd40? i use it as a aftershave and shave with a broken beer bottle. jest aside, als bomb in sage will be to your liking and if you beg him he makes a dandy aftershave in sage its awsome suff.

Sailor, we have a saying, "Great minds run together!" I also use Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap for just about everything--including my hair when I was traveling recently. So I'm going to see how it works for lather too in the morning.

The original post makes me nostalgic--we used to go camping quite a lot when the kids were little, partly because it was the only way we could afford to travel. We made fires until we landed in the lap of luxury with the gift of a Coleman stove. Loved the smell. A pipe and a beer by the campfire at night, after all was settled down ... heaven on earth.

HAHA! I guess to each their own. I don't normally eat a whole lot of meat that isn't grilled in the first place so I don't know much about the liquid smoke stuff. For now I'm hoping someone knows of where I can find that scent I'm looking for/decides to make it due to the few of us who really like the smell of campfire. Maybe one of the other guys will try the liquid smoke out first, or I may decide I'm tired of waiting and try it. Although I am hesitant since I don't know what the stuff will do to my face in terms of making it oily or something, if so it may be a good pre-shave!

The liquid smoke is pretty concentrated... If anything I would mix a small amount into something that is unscented. Even then, I have a hard time accepting the idea of splashing it on my face. To me, liquid smoke smells a bit different than the real thing.

Hey Rich, let us know how it goes with the pine tar soap. I'd definitely be interested. You guys are right, when I got home I smelled my pine tar soap and it does smell quite a bit like campfire, no wonder I like it!

And a big +1 on the pipe and beer by the campfire at night, especially after you've labored and had a good meal! This is one of my favorite parts of the ren-fair I help out with around here. I wear my kilts (but then again I don't need an excuse for that I'd wear them anyway) I get to do a little grunt work and get dirty, then have some good home made food fresh off the fire with some amazing earth-oven baked bread followed by some good spirits and my pipe. Now that's the life...if only I trusted my straight razors out in a canvas tent all weekend.

I thought about doing that, or even taking my pine tar soap and grating that together with an unscented shave soap so I could get the smell and still have that good slickness I need for shaving.

Haha that's the image we're all going for ain't it! Does that sage bomb really smell much like campfire? I know Sage itself does smell quite similar to a campfire when it's been burnt (natural incense that I like it works out well when you're a smoker) but sage on it's own doesn't smell that much like what I'm going for.

Well, I did try the pine tar soap with this morning's shave (bear in mind for what it may be worth that this was one of my pressed-for-time-in-the-morning DE shaves), and it went surprisingly well. Compared favorably to my Williams, not that that is necessarily such a high bar.

For me, that's going to be a plus for traveling: one less thing to pack if Grandpa can do the work of my shaving puck. And I think I'm going to repeat the pine-tar shave at home on occasion.
