Sweet. I might try this sometime. How did your face feel after the shave? Pine tar has great skin conditioning properties.

Just tried pine soap. It was a bit difficult to make a good lather of it, as this puck probably wasn't meant for shaving, but got it ok after little try.
The shave was ok, and as mentioned before, the scent is really fine.
I agree with you Rich that this is one of those scents that gets me nostalgic as well. When i was i kid men used to put tar into wooden boats every spring. When there was a scent of a tar in the air it was one sure sign that the spring is here.

Bassguy: i've read somewhere that pine soap really helps those with some problems with their skin, but i doubt it. If it were so, then it would be women who used this fine product of nature

I think I'll try this out tonight. I'm a little weary though since whenever I wash my face with pine tar soap it really dries me out and causes me to form flaky dry skin later. Maybe if we could throw some kind of moisturizer into it or something. Either way I'll do it tonight and see how it works out. Maybe we'll start a new trend; move over Williamites and Tabacanists, here comes the Tar Heads!

Now that you mention it, it felt quite good. Yes, I think I will be at least a part time Tar Head now.

Forgot to mention. My skin was ok. Unlike some strong scent creams, my face didn't have no any irritation during or after the shave. However this was obvious as i've been using tar soap for washing my face for years.

I tried shaving with this stuff recently and I found a couple of things...

    1. Apparently my skin is very non-oily, but is not dry. My girlfriend uses it to clean her face sometimes and has no problems, but she is a makeup wearing woman, so her face tends to be more oily than mine. I use it once and my face feels really really tight and dried out....so I can't use this stuff more than once in a week (other than scrubbing my beard out).

    2. It didn't seem to lubricate very well (but I was able to shave with it); I think it may be a good idea to mix some glycerin into it.

    3. When I first started whipping up the soap it exploded with suds, but that's exactly what it was; suds not lather. What I was able to whip up was thin and disappeared quickly. One factor though is that I was using a boar brush because I thought it would be hard to get started...I've found with other soaps that if I use a boar brush it will do just that, explode with suds, but make a thin lather. This is why when I first got my MWF I was kind of unhappy with it, until I used my badger brush.

So... I will have to try this again with my badger brush, but since this stuff dries my face out something fierce I've got to give my face some time to heal.
