School Me On Witch Hazel!
Hey Guys,
While in my local Wally World on Sunday I picked up a bottle of Witch Hazel. Is it just me or do some of you think this stuff stinks? I assume the stuff I bought has no scent added, so should I get some that is scented? Can I use this THEN apply my choice of AS? (That Pinaud Clubman is pretty good stuff after the initial scent "shock wave" receeds!)
Just trying different stuff, but I want to do things correctly, so any and all suggestions are appreciated!

I use the regular unscented witch hazel, let it dry, then put on Clubman.

Best suggestion is to add a few drops of peppermint extract to the witch hazel. It really is a super aftershave. By the way, you live in my second most favorite place....several years ago I had the chance to sing at the Thursday opening of Merlefest. What a great time.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions!
And BanjoTom, feel free to hit me up when you are back in town for Merlefest! I'm getting anxious for it to start already!

You have it right that the witch hazel stinks when you first put it on. It gags the wife if she is around when I put it on. But after you let it dry the scent goes away. I typically like to apply a moisturizing lotion after the Witch Hazel as it tends to dry me out and then my Clubman Virgina Bay Rum. And no one is the wiser the Witch Hazel is there.

This cracked me up a little bit...
Witch Hazel by itself does have an upleasant scent, but Thayer's makes a line of witch hazels with added scents (and even some alcohol free ones) that are much more pleasing. I myself like the cucumber best, but that's just me. You can find Thayer's at your local GNC or any number of places online.
Witch hazel is commonly applied after shaving but before your chosen AS. It cleans the pores of any residue that may still be on your skin after your rinse. I find it necessary after creams, but optional after soaps, as they tend to rinse cleaner.
Hope this helps...

Witch hazel scent is an acquired taste.
I find that Thayer's is less offensive to my nose, but my wife like the smell of the cheap stuff as she grew up with it. Many good aftershave splashes have witch hazel in it already. I don't think clubman does, but if I remember correctly Ogallala does and I can't think of any others right off. I may have to look when I get home.
