My three absolute go-to aftershave balms are Castle Forbes Cedar (the best), Nancy Boy Blossomwood, and Art of Shaving Sandalwood. These three are amazing. I use Thayers toner and then one of these three balms for every shave and they work great!

I just bought a bottle of lucky tiger face tonic AS. It's very, very, VERY mild stuff.... It does leave your face feeling 'clean' but that's about it. It has a light citrusy scent, no bite or feedback, mildly soothing, non-cooling, lightly moisturizes and the scent disappears almost immediately. Would I recommend it? Well, I'm not saying it's bad... But it prohibit ain't the best. I got mine on sale from my barber for $5 so I ain't complaining.

As for other recommendations, I personally tend to use / prefer alcohol base AS. Some people think only crazy people would think of using alcohol based stuff on a freshly haven face, but then again my face just isn't sensitive like that so I use a separate moisturizer if needed which typically it isn't.

Current after-shave: almond oil with a touch of castor, natural amber, sandalwood oil, cedarwood oil and lime oil. Finish with Czech & Speake Cuba or Miller Harris Feuilles de Tabac.

    I love making stuff myself.

I just ordered a bunch of different Ogallala Bay rums. I've used the sandlewood and love it. So i'm going to try a few other and one of their soaps.

If you have some of their lime and peppercorn coming, I'll bet you'll love it. A while back on another thread, I saw some saying there was a "burn" to the Ogallala. I can't see how, I'm not getting that at all, just a good fresh scent and some smooth skin.

I rather like Ogallala Limes n Peppercorns myself because of the witchhazel content.Course I love the smell of it too. Sometimes just good ol Thayers Plain non alcohol with Aloe witchhazel is the ticket. Very soothing.

    kwlfca:
It is difficult to recommend one aftershave balm, since your taste and mine are probably different, and that the fragrance I like you might not. I'll give you a selection of my preferred aftershave balms and leave you to choose.
    Castle Forbes

    Intitute Karite
Woods of Windsor — this has notes of bergamot and orange
    Trumper's Coral Skin food
    Xpec original

That's all that comes to mind at this moment. Give them a try and see what you think.

If price is a concern, you can try Pinaud Clubman, great bang for the buck. Nivea ASB is also cheap but really good. But I would have to agree with the folks who have recommended Castle Forbes. That stuff is great.

To me, the very best after shave has always been the great Floïd Orange Classic. Very, very effective. The very best aftershave I have ever experienced in all of my life. Moreover, I also like the smell. Give it a try.
