This just in yesterday, a Tiffany & Co Joseph Rodgers set with unused tools including 2 ivory choppers. Only the button hook is missing..Look at the file work on the scissors pivot. The Union Square stamp dates the set to between 1870 and 1906 I believe.

A beautiful set Steve. Made at a time when people had real pride in their craft, and turned out products to last a lifetime and beyond. Today in the hardware shop I cringe at isle after isle of mass produced, cheap crap that barely lasts through a basic warranty period. Ok......i'll get off my soapbox now.

Personally I never cared for Jolly Rogers. They are way too sweet and I don't like the flavors and....oh you mean those razors.
That's a nice set you got there and very rare.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 1081Not to derail the thread but my take is that you can find expertly made, made to last a lifetime, but you have to pay for it. Razor sets like Steve's weren't brought by the masses, hence the penny barbers. Its only been in the last 30ish years or so that mass produced shite is being made in China. Mass consumerism in the West has made China a super power. Millions of people have this thought, whether intended or not "why by something for 200 dollars when you can by something that resembles it for 50? Even if it lasts for a quarter of the 200 dollar product and you have to by it four times over its still in your hand, you don't have to save for it or want for it?" Same goes for food, no one wants to spend X amount on grass fed, organic beef like we did years ago (because that's all there was) when you can buy the same cut of beef for a quarter of the price, albeit its pumped full of hormones and antibiotics and fed soya.
Sorry I'll get off my soap box now!

Well, let’s not get too far off the track, because this is an eternal discussion about the price vs value of everything. Just go to any shaving soap sub forum on any site and see the questions, ‘Is MdC worth X times what soap Y is?’ If they have to ask, the answer is ‘No’. People want that quality but they definitely don’t want to pay for it. Tiffany and Co is not, and never has been a store for ‘value shoppers’, but they are by no means unique in this respect. And yes, you can still get good stuff, and you will still have to pay for it, lol.
A classic example is a friend of mine that was looking for backpacks for his kids school year not long ago. He was lamenting that you couldn’t buy an American made pack made with American made materials. I told him sure you can, Tom Bihn. The only non-American product that they use is Dyneema which is not produced in America. He’s all over that until he saw that those packs run $200-300. So he’s off to Walmart because he won’t pay for what he wants, or he would have to give up something else. I bought my goddaughters Tom Bihn packs for college, and after a decade one of them finally blew out a zipper from abuse. No problem, she sent it back to Tom Bihn and they repaired it for free. It looks new.
I’m not bashing Walmart either, but if you want this, you won’t find it at Walmart.
