In fact, not everyone of them.

I'm sure the upper one has original scales.

I am not sure. I think, the upper is a EPBD or Subcero scale.

I don't think the scales have that much to do with the type of blade but more with the timeframe of production.
As far as I know the novodur blade arrived later in the production as well as the tridur and inoxidable blades(AFAIK the Sub-Cero was before these).
At this time cost reduction had them drop the bakelite scales and silver inlays. The first celuloid scales lacked embelisments and warped easyli...a short time after this the scales recived the stirpes on the wedge end and the stabilization pin. Both features are ment to stiffen and stabilize the scales. Future price reduction dropped the 3rd pin to the end of production.

So i think we should look at the timeframe clues ...like the type of material used, inlays, the marking with the country of origin on the back of the tang....and most importantly the marking on the face of the tang witch gives the most info.
    Hope this was usefull.

I've seen quite a few early Filarmonicas with plain scales minus the Lira motif and the scales are definitely original you can see plainly that the peening looks so correct on some of those early models, also the early models that carry the Lira mark are much better quality scales than the later models, I have an early Filarmonica Especial the Lira Motif looks like a raised metal inlay and not something press into the scales.

that especial is beautifull...bakelite scales with nickel slver overlay.
no warping....no worries...bakelite is hard to work with.

Well, Jamie resolved the mistery, but I meant I know the owner and I'm positively sure these are factory scales

Thank-you Cobre, for this essentially NOS Filarmonica Double Temple, JMP #14. I know you were concerned about calling it a true NOS, but it still had a factory edge on it when Val cleaned it up and honed it.

Needless to say, this will be my SOTD today.

Hi Andrew that's a beautiful blade a very early Doble Temple with the wrong scales the original JMP Doble Temple like yours they came with plain black scales and no Lira mark on the scales If I were you I would look for a nice set of black vintage scales and swap them over.
