Thanked: 488Bengall Wedge
Nathan,
I appreciate the information. I was thinking around 1900 but never having seen or even knowing Bengall made a large wedge it was all but impossible for me to tell. I certainly did get a good deal having purchased the Bengall and accompanying BBW/Coticule (unused natural) for $20.50!
I do like the blade shape as well. It's almost a Spanish point. There was only minor rust on the blade and was very close to shave ready as it was. Someone didn't use it much or took very good care of it unusual for that age razor. The pins are very snug.
Whatever steel they used after a few runs over the coticule it was very sharp and gave a nice smooth shave. I'd say better than 85% of the other razors in my collection. Only the W&B razors in the collection shave as well.
All that's left is to put a high gloss finish on the blade. The scales have no defects so they surely stay. This is my first Bengall but if they all shave this well it won't be the last:-)

Hello all,
Well I decided to try a Straight. This is what I picked up off the Bay. I am anxiously awaiting the mail.
I will take pics of it when it arrives, This was the auction pic.
Can somebody tell me of a someone who can hone this and make it shave ready? I also need to check into how I shine it up.
Thanks in advance
Phil

Thanked: 3Bengall Restoration
Here is my entry and my first restoration. It has Corian scales and it took me two tries to hone and strop it properly, but now it works and shaves great!

Striped Cat
I was wondering what kind of scales to put on my cat (Bengall 5/8 square point) when ran cross this "Bengall Band Of Brothers' club and read cannonfodder's post about thinking of putting stripes on his cat in Zebra Wood or Bacote. Well, I just happened to have some Zebra Wood laying around and it hit me, "Yep, the cat needs some stripes", so I went to work. I hope cannonfodder doesn't mind if I stole his idea but I just couldn't help myself. Like everyone has said they are excellent shavers. The only markings on it was "Bengall', I picked it up on the bay for less than $15 including shipping so what can you expect......
