Thanked: 3226Welcome to the forum. With razors you will likely never know the date of manufacture, only an approximate span of years it may have been made in. You may find the model from old catalogues and sources like that. Yes, it is carbon steel.
The Boker tree symbol has changed over the years so you may be able to match the tree symbol on the razor to the same design found here STRAZORS.com - all about classic razors - H.Boker & Co, Solingen. to find a time period.

Thanks Bob, great chart. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get a match, yet. Will do some more digging.

I have a similar chart to Bob's. My guess would be from 1891-1944.
+1 on what BobH said about all of his being good shavers. I have yet to find one that wasn't.Last edited by engine46; 08-12-2017 at 11:34 PM.

Thanked: 603Here's my Boker:
5/8", front of the tang reads "H. Boker & Co." with the lone tree; the rear reads "Germany"; nice jimps on the thumb notch; the scales are not original (they were severely burned, so I tossed 'em... should've kept 'em, but what did I know 12 years ago?)
The grind is somewhere between a quarter- and a half-hollow, and at 5/8" it's nice and stiff, with no flexing.
I re-established the bevel this morning, then took it through 4K->8K->12K and stropping. I'll shave with it on Friday, and post a much nicer photo in the current SOTD thread. You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Thanked: 2Boker King Cutter
Here's my Boker King Cutter that belonged to my wife's great-grandfather (b.1880-d.1964).
I have been shaving with it for the past month and am really enjoying shaving again! I'm even using the vintage strop after a bit of clean up.
I think it is about 100 years old.
A transcription of the instructions are also attached.

Thanked: 556I found this one in a picker’s dream shop. Stuff piled everywhere, but the owner knew where everything was.
The razor was black with patina, but cleaned up easily with extra fine steelwool and Mothers. The edge was in remarkably good condition and produced a nice shave after some touching up on a coticule barber hone I got at the same time.
The chart Bob provided suggests mid 1920’s to mid 30’s. The etching on the blade is so far gone it’s hard to make out what was there. It looks like “Clean Cutter”, but that does not seem to be one that I can find Boker actually used.
