That advertisement was taken by John Barber himself to protect his trademark so obviously there was some concern with fakes out there.

Why is I. Barber mentioned in that old ad, Martin?

Because John Barber razor had a reputation, and Isaac barber used I. Barber some might think it was a John Barber. John wanted to make sure that if you purchased an I Barber it wasn't his, but in the end I'm sure they are both fine razors.

("June 13, 1821 Five-year Invention Patent for Own Machines to produce frameback, and other cutlery items, To mr. Treboul in Beaune, and F. Bernard, in Couard-Lès-Autun, department of Saône-et-Loire. ")

François Bernard, born in Nuits (Côte-d'Or, in 1788, son of François Bernard, vinegar producer, and Anne Godmet) established a small razor factory on creeck of Brisecou in 1818. Later, a little further down, on the area occupied today by the mill located in the center of the village of Couhard.
The factory occupied a dozen workers, and at certain times, up to thirty-two. Some products of this factory are still in the Autunies, bearing this inscription engraved on the heel "F. Of COUHARD [triangle] patent of invention."

Bernard traveled in person to sell his products that he sold mainly in Italy. He was once absent for six months, so that his workers, thinking they would not return, would risk leaving the lab, but were paid in full. He died at Couhard on July 1, 1831, at the age of forty years.

Laurent Bourdiau, at the age of twenty-eight and married with a niece of the inventor, kept the activity of the factory in which he worked, and then turned it into a tooth factory, then clogs. This establishment ends to disappear until 1840 and was replaced by the mill that currently operates.

Bernard belonged to Freemasonry, and you can see the three Masonic points repeated twice on the shake of his razors.
Another sign, [triangle] after the word Couhard, can be interpreted either as the Masonic triangle, or as a badly made representation of the pyramid of Couhard near the lab.
