    Also noteworthy, it isn't the manufacturer that stamps hallmarks, but the Assay Office. Here's what Sheffield's Assay Office has to say on the subject.

    This means that if it was not made of precious metal, it would not be assayed, and thus not stamped by the Assay Office.
