Wow, that Henkotsu looks like it has some stories to tell. I strongly recommend pulling off the tape when it arrives, so you can see if the seller was hiding anything, and to prepare it for a new wrap, if desired.

It might also be a candidate for some re-hollowing of the omote at some point.

I've become a bit of a Henkotsu cheerleader. Congrats on the acquisition.

Well, its here, that Henkotsu ... and under the yellow is green, and under the green is red [plastic tape]

and under that was some rather thick paper with kanji, which ive preserved some of, the non-gummy innermost layer any way

and under that, after ive scrubbed off the 'gummy' is a quite thin and interestingly subtly bent handle

well, this was fun to do, its now rust-free, and it was actually shinier than it appears in the vendor pics

in places .. most of it its quite roughly finished

defintely the most interesting razor ive ever handled and actually the edge seems not in too bad shape, considering

next im starting to get some stones in a row, pics when it shaves

trouble is, im now bidding on 3 even rustier ones ..

and im sure ive spotted another secret Henkotsu

That Iwasaki is a monster. I have been curious about getting a Western style Japanese razor but haven't found a good shoulderless one for a reasonable price yet...

Those are hard to get, they are very collectible in Japan and the prices are rather steep.

Yeah, that's the impression I've gotten...have largely given up but still occasionally think about it.
