I Just got my 6/8 Mastro Livi razor purchased on eBay. When I ran my fingers over the blade it didn't feel right. I took out my glass and saw 3 small nicks in the front quarter of the blade and on the back quarter the bevel wasn't smooth. I first tried a Shapton 8k to hone it out with no success. I dropped down to the 4 k and worked my way up to a 30k and finally got a really good bevel and edge. Now for the shave. This razor wants to shave. From the moment I held it, to when I placed it against my face, it just wanted to lay down perfectly. without question, the smoothest most comfortable shave I ever had. These razors are a work of art. I love my Aust's but this razor is the Rolls Royce. Bad news, I am going to order another one and am now selling off my others. If I only had one razor, it would be a Mastro Livi.Name: IMG_0120.jpg

I am very glad to read you are now a very happy Mastro Livi straight razor enthusiast, although it is so sad to see the one who sold you kept it in such poor shape. Treat it right and you will love this razor for decades to come.
And, by the way: what type of razor are you going to order? What specification do you have in mind?

It appears the razor I purchased has a Spanish tip. I didn't think I would like it but it really shaves great. A French tip would also be good. I would want the stainless steel, with a deer antler scale and I like the worked spine. Fits my hand. I am open to suggestions. I am sure whatever I purchase, it will be a razor to remember and cherish. I hear people say you should rest the razors. I would like to use my Mastro Livi every day.

The 6/8 Acciaio al carbonio K720 blade looks to be what I would want. Can't take my eyes off his gallery.

Yes, you are right: your Mastro Livi razor has a Spanish point and, in my opinion, it is a very good point, as well as the French point.
I guess you should try a stainless steel, just to feel the difference from your carbon steel and, as a matter of fact, RWL34 is an excellent stainless steel which Mastro Livi uses for his razors since a very long time. I have three of them and they all are excellent shavers. I would also suggest the artisan Mastro Livi stainless Damascus steel, both for the artistic value and the excellence in shaving. Of course, Mastro Livi carbon Damascus steel is equally excellent.
As for the scales, I guess this mainly is a matter of personal taste, by also considering Mastro Livi uses tens of different materials, from wood to horn, from fossil mammoth ivory to mother of pearl.
No matter your choice, it will certainly be a razor to enjoy every day and, of course, the same can be said for the one you have just bought.

I too am a fan of a French or Spanish point as well.

My first impression was holy cow this is a huge razor. I mean it made my 5/8 Dovo look like a kids toy. Then I tried the hanging hair test and it went through the hair like a hot knife through butter. That scared me a little bit lol.

It just so happened that my first shave with my Mastro Livi was my 25th shave. After getting over how BIG and sharp this razor is I had to now shave. Well a beautiful well balanced razor doesn't make me great at SR shaving. I'm looking forward to learning how to shave with my Mastro Livi.

Perhaps you can explain the hand stropping. I noticed in his barber video the barber doing it and in this club a number of people have mentioned it. Is it to get the oil from your palm? Your hand is unever so I don't see how that could help the edge.
