Thanked: 96What is the difference between the Damascus stainless Mastro Livi buys and carbon he makes? I am curious to know it one shaves better then the other. The cost is almost double. I am looking to buy a Damascus razor from Mastro Livi.

What do you mean? Grifetto is made of stainless steel with olive wood scales.
As far as I know, Mastro Livi uses now five different types of Damascus steel:
Damascus types completely and personally made by Mastro Livi in his laboratory:
- Carbon Damascus
- Carbon Damascus with Nickel
- Temperable Stainless Steel Damascus
- CarboInox (combination of temperable stainless steel and carbon steel, both plain steel and Damascus)
Damascus types made by others:
- Damasteel
As far as I can tell, they all are different and provide a different feel and touch on your skin. They all are efficient for shaving and all provide a smooth and velvety shave. Damasteel seems to be more aggressive than most of Mastro Livi Damascus. His carbon Damascus, depending on processing and style, is probably the rounder of them all.The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+

Thanked: 96I knew the RazorGuy would know about the Damascus. Just ordered the stainless steel Damascus. So much for my New Years resolution of not buying a razor this year.

Thanked: 96I ordered the same razor I just had made with Buffalo Horn scales, 7/8 and the stainless steel Damascus. See picture of the one I just had made. This is my favorite razor. Love the weight and Spanish blade style. All my Mastro Livi's are fantastic but the one I just got really stands out. Your right about each razor having its own personality. My wife said she would divorce me if I bought another razor. I said well at least I will be clean shaven when we go to court.

It sounds awesome! So you mean Mastro Livi artisan stainless steel damascus. Great choice! I have one and it is an incredible shaver, not to mention how beautiful it looks!
As far as I can see, this is a Barber's Notch point, not a Spanish point!
Apart from this, it is asuper beautiful razor! Contratulations! And I am sure it is a great shaver!

Mastro Livi Grifetto is a semi-artisan made razor. It is not like the well known custom razors he makes. Grifetto's blade is made from blanks personally made by Mastro Livi, as opposed to the so called custom razors in which the blade and everything else is totally hand made by Mastro Livi.
As for Grifetto, the only "non-artisan" element is the blade which is however processed and ground like every other Mastro Livi razor. The RazorGuy - StraightRazorChannel on Youtube and Google+
