I wonder if you might be afraid of losing the magic? At the end of the day (er, shave), you will have used a straight razor to shave as men have done for a few hundred years. The razor will most likely do what other razors do and each stroke won't be preceded with a shout, 'I'm using a NOS Wonderedge!' Don't use it! Don't display it! Flaunt it. 'I have a NOS Wonderedge and you don't.' Then look at it and start talking to it, 'NOS Wonderedge....we can do whatever we want, you and me.'

Thanked: 485Carnal. But only on a Sunday.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Use the razor for the job it was made for!
I doubt you'll get many other answers here, given that this is the SRP - and most of us here are straight users. Maybe a biased result to your poll then.

Not to throw a wrench in the works but I bought a Wonderedge (definitely not NOS) and was wicked excited to hone and use it. Got it all honed up (the edge is crazy thin as stated somewhere else in this thread) and went to strop it. After about 3 passes on the strop, I caught the edge and dropped it No real damage, just had to re-hone and wait another day or 2 to put it to work. Needless to say, I used a bench strop the second time
Anyway, I'm with the masses here....use it! It was a fantastic shave!!

Another thought: As the poll suggests, we are in general committed users of tools, like the chimps who use sticks to fish grubs out of a hole in a rotten tree. If you put this poll on let's say, a Sothebys Fine Art site, you might get an entirely different result. Many would be horrified at the thought of defiling an antique, like putting plastic flowers in a Ming Dynasty vase. By not using the razor you could be adding to the inventory of historical implements in a perfectly preserved state. The resposibility of this decision could crush an ordinary man. Good luck.

Great discussion guys. Thanks for your input.
Here are some photos. First time taking shots of a razor.
I noticed some pitting that was not evident in the seller photos. It's not as pristine as I thought which tips me over to using it. I was 99% sure I would anyway, but what's the harm in waiting a day to see what you guys would say?
Being a toy user my whole life is why my Star Wars collection that I bought at ten years old is worthless. But nothing will replace the joy I had for years imagining I was kicking Darth Vaders' @ss!
