Like the other parts of a wetshaver's equipment, razors are consumables. Not expendables, "consumables"... designed from the start to be used-up. Granted, the major "consumption" of a razor occurs during honing, but years of use and honing will eventually render the blade unusable. From my experience, the "destruction" of a straight razor might go on for fifty years, or more, before any signs of its change become visible. If it were mine, I wouldn't make it my "daily shaver"; but it would be a regular member of a monthly rotation.

    Smooth shaving!
That is because you (and others with your mind set) still look at razors as razors.
"tools to be used" You either forget, or ignore, that some things are also "art"
Food is meant to be eaten, will you kill the last member of a species so you can taste the gastronomic delights that are its eggs?
If you found George Washingtons mythical ax would you start chopping trees with it, because that's what it was made for?
I'm sorry, but it was a tool 150 years ago. Today? Today it is a rare and wonderful relic of a bygone era, where pride of craftsmanship still existed, and use it or not, this fact should never be ignored or taken for granted.

But razors are razors, and really are just little pieces of steel and some kind of material for the scales. Sometimes we put too much value on things, eincluding things like razors. Life is much larger, richer, and complex than a razor. Oh, pride of craftsmanship still exists.

To the OP, you will have way more fun using this razor than displaying it so you can stare at it. Where's the fun in that?

Art is always in the eye of the beholder.... In my oppinion, it does no good arguing about religion, politics or art. The beauty of owning something is that you can do what you will with it. We aren't talking about something that is so ultra rare that it is no longer available. There are other example of this razor out there. I wouldn't put this on the same level as the last of a species of animal or George Washington's axe. it's a matter of perspective I guess. My oppinion would be to use it. To each his own.

In other words, use it sparingly. I use a nice strop I have only for my 'Sunday bedroom shaves' and also a nice ivory handled frameback razor. this way I get to use them, but don't 'wear them out'.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Sorry Carl, I did read the first post, but that would have been a while before reading your post, it does now make sense, thanks. It would certainly make the day more special to have special things to use.

You're lucky. I'm also retired and for some reason everyday seems like Monday morning.
