I got my first from WD (sight unseen), and it's not at all ugly to look at, a few water stains on the blade, and maybe you can't pluck nosehair in the relections of the pins, but it looks pretty good and was ready to go. I don't think you can really ask for much more compared to the price of a new one. The silvertip brushes are nice too.

Thanked: 3Have people gotten the sight unseen flawed razors? I was thinking of picking one up as a beater for traveling, camping, etc. But I'm curious as to how flawed they are.

I can't speak for anyone but me. I really don't look at saving money in the long run by shaving with a straight razor. I would have to live to be 150 to do that. I enjoy it. plan and simple. as long as the blade is truly shave ready inexpensive and as others have said you don't really mind what it looks like. and to start out to see if you like it cheap is good. also if you do like it then you will more than likely start honing your own razors. then the cheap razor to practice on is great. and if you find that it's just not your cup of tea then well I use to smoke more than the cheap razors cost. for me it's about doing what most people in the world don't. breaking out from the crowd. and just having fun. corresponding with all you guys also makes interesting. also once a person finds he likes this great sport then the disease of RAD sets in and for that I really don't know if there's a cure. anyway good luck to the new guy and welcome.

Thanked: 1Let me know what you think about the strop kit...I plan on buying this soon. Also, I may be picking up the sight unseen razor too if my thrift shop searches come up fruitless. I'm itching to pick up my first shaver after I started reading about SR.
Larry has emailed me with advice and he was very helpful and responsive, I'd feel comfortable buying from him.

Thanked: 2027WD blades will function fine,as will his strops and brushes,Down the road you want to upgrade,is the nature of the sport.
Larry fills a nice void, one I totally agree with.Serve the Newbs which he do's very well.

Thanked: 0I got the poor mans strop kit today, it came with everything I needed. The leather is decent, it had a little packet of oil and instructions for everything. I'm quite please with the purchase experience. I'll probably look to him for a sight unseen soon.

I'm a 6 Month SR Shaver, have RAD, have 2 new R. Aust's, a new Dovo, and my own vintage Hoffritz which are all good shavers BUT I want a vintage from Gssixgun, one from Larry, one off the bay and 10 more new and vintage ones. I say, suck it up and buy one.
