The blade is a Bartmann 6/8 (carbon steel, I think). That day I used C.O. Bigelow cream. This is only about the fourth time that I've used this razor, and I'm not sure if I had used it with the Bigelow cream or not. I still think that it has something to do with it being the first time that I used a towel to wipe off the lather instead of rinsing it; I'm sure that there was some small amount of cream or residue left on the blade between strokes/passes.

I've gotten something like that on a blade or two in the past. In my case, I finish the last pass, rinse the blade, set it down on a chair in the hall out side the bathroom door where it is kind of standing on point and end of the scales, like an inverted V.

I go back in and rinse my face and clean the brush/bowl, and dry off, apply A/S. Finally go out into the hall and get the razor, wipe with tissue and strop 20 round trips. Sometimes I've forgot and left the razor with soap residue that didn't come off under the tap, and just walked away leaving it for an hour, a day ........

I've used Semichrome, Flitz, Wenol among other metal polishes. Applied with a Q-tip and rubbed with a paper towel. I've had varied results. Sometimes I have gotten water/lather spots out and sometimes there is a gray shadowy spot or two that doesn't respond to the polish. In my case I live with the results whatever they are. Maybe there are some members who've found a better way to deal with the stains and we will all learn a thing or two.

....and then there are members like me, who instead of living with the results, waged chemical warfare and almost ruined a perfectly good razor. I attribute my actions to the occasional outbreak of, "dumbass", which according to my wife, I get more frequently then I think!

One thing to keep in mind: if the polish touches the edge, it will slightly dull it. Therefore, using q-tips like JimmyHAD suggest is the safest way, in my opinion.
    I want a lather whip

I've learned to live with stains as long as they aren't too bad.

if you use wheel polish make sure it isn't one with chemicals designed to take brake dust off.
