Counterfeiting Razors
In the world we live in today, we all know that if something is too good to be true than it probably isn't true! You see all over the place replica watches, purses, clothing and really anything that is expensive and can be falsely replicated. I have searched on SRP and see a few threads with members asking if their particular razor is counterfeit and posting a picture of it. As with other counterfiet items in the world today, they are all typically high end, high dollar items. With straight razors, I would think that this would hold true, that someone obviously would not replicate a Gold Dollar razor, rather a 9/8 W&B which would pull a high dollar amount. So are their known cases or companies or individuals that are known (and hopefully blacklisted) in the shaving world for producing high end counterfeit razors?

Thanked: 177The amount of work involved imo to make a counterfeit is more than its worth. Would somebody make fake quarters? I dont think so. But anything is possible. You can buy a 3/4 wade and butcher on ebay that will clean up nice for $25. And you can buy nice scales for it for $25.

Phew! It's nice to know that my Gold Dollar is the real McCoy. I would hate to think someone ripped off my $9 and slipped me a bogus blade.

I don't think we have ever seen a counterfeit here. The market is too limited for an outfit to mass produce fakes and for an individual to make them too much work is involved and the chances of it being discovered early on can wipe out your profit. It's easier to buy some Pakistani junk and hype it as quality and sell it. There's real money there.

There have been some suggestions that the Masonic etch on some old blades may be bogus. There is a Masonic Pakistani blade that surely is.
Other than that I have not been bit...yet!

Wasn't there a site selling razor-shaped objects that were poor attempts at ripping off Charlie Lewis' work?

Thanked: 13245Counterfeit haven't really seen those, but what I have seen is
Pakistani and GD's that have had the Stamps buffed off and customized so that they are sold as a
"Custom Razor"
Now there is nothing wrong with fixing up these razors and selling the "Work" that has been done, as long as the buyer knows what the base razor is, but to not disclose that IMHO is a little hinkey
