Thanked: 375Glen - Nice job! I think I would have been a little queasy doing that on a new blade.

Imagine how I felt. That's why I didn't even consider doing it myself. I had seen a Dubl Duck with a broken toe that Glen had salvaged and that was more or less the same grind needed here so I had every confidence in him. Lo and behold, he did a beautiful job as expected. (Woo hoo again!)

Mine came in today. The spine is sharper than a lot of factory edges. I got #44, which isn't a cool spy number. It is a palindrome, and according to Wiki it's also a "happy number," but the only Agent 44 seems to be the guy from Get Smart who popped out of trash cans.
The factory edge seems decent, so I'll give it a whirl tomorrow and see if adjustment is needed.

Thanked: 2I just got one from Smallflower and it was #004. Strange number sequencing. Came shave ready. Only current production razor I own, not counting my two semi-customs. Great razor for sure, and proud to own it, but not so great value wise when compared to vintage pricing.

Great, now I can get my commission for promoting them! Ha! There are a few other places listing them although most have a "Call for availability" note. I still don't understand why I was told that production would begin next September. Perhaps he meant that the current production run was finished but they'll have another then. No matter, I'm just tickled to have one after waiting nearly a year.
The last two current model Bokers I bought (a Picadilly and a Silver Steel) came shave ready from the factory too. It seems that the factories, or at least Boker, are doing a better job of delivering shaveable edges these days.

I work two blocks from "Smallflower" (Merz Apothecary). I'm actually surprised that they had this. They sell some straight razors but it's really not their thing. They have a nice corner of men's shaving products but I didn't think they would be holding any of a limited supply of these razors. I didn't intend to buy one this soon. I was hoping that the availability would be scarce enough to delay the purchase for a while. But faced with one left and enough Amazon points to make it 30% off, I went in on it. And if it doesn't come shave ready, I'll be plenty prepared for that. In fact, I'd be more fun if it didn't. I was waiting for this one to come around. I first saw it on the Boker website about a year ago but didn't see any on any of the other online shops. Now I know why. I've wanted a Boker but I prefer 6/8-7/8 blades and the offer so few in those sizes. So this one should fit.

I recall that Smallflower used to have a huge range of straights, and they're down now to a handful: 7 Dovo Grenadilles on their Amazon storefront, who knows what else is in the store. It looks like they're another victim of the Great Razor Embargo. I'm surprised Boker broke ranks and actually shipped some razors into the US market.
The Boker's factory edge was about 8/10, so it'll get a little face time with the Jnats and go into the rotation. I'm not wild about the nail-pins, but it'll be a long while before that works its way up to the highest priority item on my list.
