I would just like to share my experience in context...
Firstly I will admit that my experience is very limited and started about 8 months ago. In the beginning I came to this website asking almost the exact same question as the OP, asking whether or not I should get a TI, boker, or Dovo (As a first razor). I had not even heard of Revisor. But of all the responses I got, many of them pointed towards Revisor. My revisor was my first razor.
All the advice I can give you (from my limited perspective) is that for any of the current manufacturers, they will probably all function similar to you as a beginner. I would think that most people here would agree that its not so much about which razor you get as your first, just as long as it is sharpened by somebody who knows what they are doing. I seriously doubt anybody here will argue about that.

Good luck from one beginner to another!

(also P.S. if you do choose to go with a revisor, do not be put off by the website they are held on. It doesn't seem very user friendly, and to order a razor you actually must email them, but the gentleman running the website is extremely helpful. They really do have great service)

This is not a site where everybody can post their opinion just because they happen to have it. The reason people seek advice here is the expertise and help that is available. Most of what you read on other shaving forums is there only because of the SRP members who have persisted in pointing out bad advise and challenged meritless 'opinions'.

For example these days when it comes to honing the first thing that you will hear is that it is almost all about the bevel work. It took me and several other members six months before it caught up here and then it was another year or so before other forums picked it up too. Before then threads were mostly about everybody's opinion on which finishing hone the guy should try to get his razor sharp.

I completely agree that it is best to be helpful and nice-mannered, but being helpful and cantankerous is better than being nice-mannered and not helpful.
Being rude and condescending is not helpful at all. At any rate, this is not the place to do this Guigi as this is someone else's thread. If you want to continue this conversation I would be happy to reply to a PM.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

    NAILED IT

Gentlemen, we are ALL here to learn and enjoy the art, the practice, the truly divine nature of the straight razor shave. Had I listened to Ivan years ago I would have saved a ton of money chasing razors...(although he did turn me on to John Barber and Heljestrand...which I am eternally grateful!)

This is true, the lathering, the shaving and stropping techniques are by far the dominant factors for beginners. The rest is relatively straightforward - good quality razor that is properly honed isn't hard to pick.
The differences between razors and honing become apparent with experience, even subtle ones. At the end somebody ends up preferring their Dovo to their TI, while somebody else the opposite. I've even seen claims that GoldDollars shave every bit a nice as a Dubl Duck (from a relatively new member nobody's heard of), but I'm yet to see anybody trading their ducks, pumas, heljestrands, or filarmonicas for gold dollars.

This isn't the first time I have read your publicly stated unsolicited opinion on how to run this site, so may be the next time you want to communicate in a PM simply use the respective link. As far as I am concerned I don't have anything else to say on the matter.

You get lucky and happen on such razor for $10, or you can spend thousands chasing them. The $20 razor was made around 1830 in...
And this right cheer folks is why i have 30-ish vintage blades i'm working through, and don't care what name is on them or how wide/curvy/sleek they are - what shaves best _is_ best. Personally don't have any interest in a "modern" blade, too much old steel needs love.

When posting here becomes ad hominem, as it so often does in HHT threads, it's time to go do something worthwhile. Me, I'm going to go get my tires rotated.

Well all this went way off topic. People are who they are. I just hope admins have to follow similar rules to us all. Since in theory no one is supposed to be above the law.

Since this is directed at me, I guess I'll address it.

No, there are different rules for admins than for the rest of you. But not the way you are implying.
We have a lot more responsibilities and no perks, e.g. we are excluded from participating in any of the contests and raffles. And we get to see the ugliest side of people which in over 90% of the cases is hidden from you.

gugi, thank you for your statements. I have read, and bitten my tongue so many times, reading many newbies uninformed statements that I should be learning sign language to communicate. Isn't there a statement about a little bit of knowledge is dangerous? I hope I can live long enough to see some of the younger members have an aha moment and realize that all the work that was done before them actually has merit and is to be supported, added to and disseminated in a logical, unemotional manner.

Yes - agreed Pope Razorfeld...I believe it was a wise idiom I once read that said, "take the cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth"....still serves me to this day....all joking aside, the people that take the time and energy to make this place run smoothly and with some consistency are always owed a ton of thanks! For all that happens in our lives, this is a great place to go and talk about razors and other things in life, and of course, enjoy the company of others from around the world, of different ages and different cultures...

    Cheers!
