Wry grin and subtle noding from over here as this has gone off topic anyway, i think its important to look at how long a member has been a member (and in some cases post count - though mine is misleading), and to disregard the "senior member" tag as it is given after 100 posts.

Heard A LOT of good things about SRD and Lynn. What I meant by saying the only issue is their inventory, is just because I really wanted to buy a razor from SRD, but don't have many choices at the moment.

Maybe I will just go with the Le Dandy. What is the difference (if any) between the Le Dandy and the 1937 SC?

Are the plastic scales of the Le Dandy good? I've read some things about plastic scales breaking, and being very flexible (not necessarily about the Le Dandy).
You could get the razor rescaled at a later date, though i have no idea on costings to do so, but if you like the look of the razor otherwise, and once you have shaved with it, like it then a rescale might be worthwhile if it will improve your enjoyment of the razor.

I'll be placing an order about one week from now, have to wait for a check to come in the mail. Chances are very good I'll jump on the Le Dandy. I'm sure I'll enjoy it..plus it's a little cheaper than the Palisander or the other DOVO I mentioned..

What would be a good brush/strop combo for under $100? Just a beginner brush and strop, I'll upgrade to a nice brush and strop in the near future, but until then I need something to get me by. I was hoping to spend just a little over $200 on a razor, brush and strop, if possible. The razor is roughly $135. So, I guess I'm looking for a brush and strop for $70-90. Any suggestions?

    Thanks guys!!

I also like how SRD is located in Ohio. I live in Michigan, so shipping will be very fast!

That's awesome! Glad to hear that!

Yeah, as soon as I pulled it out of the box the first thing to go through my mind was "Holy crap! This thing is NIIIIIIIIICE!!"

I live in Toronto, and the strop I ordered arrived so fast I thought I found it downstairs stropping my razors for me!!! Think it was 8 business days for my Roo strop to get here...impressive! The brush and strop you're thinking of are perfectly fine...Thater a good brand of brush, take care of it and it will last you many, many years, and the strop is an excellent choice...be careful with it, they're easy to nick when you first start out, but you're good to go with those two picks!

Well, at least I know I'll be getting a decent strop! Thanks for the feedback!

My only complaint (which isn't even really a complaint) about the Le Dandy is the print on the blade. To me it makes the razor just look cheap. However, it is nothing that would detour me from buying the razor. Like I said, it's not really a "complaint", I'd just rather have a "naked" blade with nothing on it at all. I know the print will come off eventually anyways...no big deal.

I'm excited! I hope they still have it in stock the beginning of next week..

The Thater brushes are really high quality and I think an exceptional value, I don't think you'll have a reason to 'upgrade' the brush or the strop for that matter to a higher quality. I personally don't like the latigo leather much and my favorite among the current production strops I've tried (from tony miller, srd, vintageblades, star shaving, i may be forgetting something) is the premium-1. But the latigo is much cheaper, will do the job very well, and it's a very high quality strop. Since it's modular you could swap the stropping piece at a later date if you want a different leather or put a bunch of nicks that bother you - it's a rather economical way for that.

I myself have settled on one brush, rooney's finest, but that's a very niche hair the cost is respectively premium, but it makes me very happy and over the lifetime it'll serve me the cost is really not all that important. But I've seen the Thater brushes of fellow shavers, tried a few and they are really, really nice. If my alternate brush that I rarely use wasn't sterling silver rebristled with dense shavemac finest knot which gives a very comparable feel, I probably would have a thater for that luxurious experience.
