If it were me, for that kind of money I'd take a hard look at the classifieds here, unless you just want a new production razor. Some of the vintage steel produced in the days of yon is top notch, and you should be able to find a razor (or possibly two) in your price range easily. Also, given some of the quality razors listed now, it will definitely not be a razor you'll need to move on from or upgrade down the road (though you will probably want to try different ones).

I just want to be 110% happy with my purchase. I know I'll end up buying more razors down the road, but I don't want to buy my first one (say it's a TI) and think "Why didn't I get the DOVO".

If you purchase any of those you will not be unhappy with your choice.

Also, much like guitars, you have cheapies... First Act would be more like any Pakistan razor, Epiphone would be like Gold Dollar and so on. Then, you have vintage razors to consider... a DublDuck Satinedge or Wade & Butcher "For Barber's Use" might equate to a '59 Gibson Les Paul.

If a brand of razor has a good reputation, it usually is for a reason, just as it is with guitars.

Ultimately, you'll just need to pick up one, plug it in (strop it up) and see what kind of music you can make.
Awesome! Glad my analogy made a little sense!

The big issue for me is there are really no stores that carry and razors around me, I can go to the Art Of Shaving in a mall close to me, but they only offer safety razors. They have no straights in the store what-so-ever. So, ultimately this is a blind purchase. I'm doing hours of reading online, asking questions and enough research you'd think I'm studying for a final.

It'll all be worth it in the end...

Out of these choices the TI is a bit harder than the rest because the c135 steel has higher carbon content. Nobody can really tell which one would you prefer, and at the beginning you likely wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyways.
I don't know anything about guitars, but I can give you an analogy between grado and sennheiser headphones - both are on the neutral side of reproduction, but there is a distinct difference between them at the same sound quality. Some people prefer one, others the other.

If it's a coin toss I'd say buy the one from SRD just because Lynn is the main reason that this forum exists, while Jarod has had more of the opposite effect on this community.

The only issue I have with SRD is their inventory right now. I've actually called SRD and TSS and can say the customer service from SRD was much better. When I called TSS I spoke directly with Jarod. He seemed to not really want to answer any questions, and then when I said "Good to talk to you! Thanks for the help!" he just hung up on me, without saying goodbye or anything.

I didn't speak with Lynn from SRD, but the gentlemen I spoke with was more helpful.

Well, since all SRD has in stock that I want is the Le Dandy, how is it? What is the differences between the Le Dandy and the 1937 SC? Would you recommend the Le Dandy?

Their lack of inventory speaks to the quality of service that they provide if you ask me.

The Le Dandy would be a great starter. Do it!!!!

Yeah, that's what I've thought this whole time. Them being out of stock is a good thing, not a bad thing...it proves the CS is superb and their product are great. Heard A LOT of good things about SRD and Lynn. What I meant by saying the only issue is their inventory, is just because I really wanted to buy a razor from SRD, but don't have many choices at the moment.

Maybe I will just go with the Le Dandy. What is the difference (if any) between the Le Dandy and the 1937 SC?

Are the plastic scales of the Le Dandy good? I've read some things about plastic scales breaking, and being very flexible (not necessarily about the Le Dandy).

Some people will always find something to critique about a product. I have some very expensive customs that I could point out a few flaws in... However the Le Dandy is solid as far as I am concerned and would be a trustworthy companion for years to come.

You'll more than likely want a second razor before long anyhow and if you watch SRD's stock you might just get that 1937 as a companion to the TI. Just my thoughts but you may want to move on that TI fast before someone else goes all through this thread and pulls the rug out from beneath you based on the suggestions you are getting.

Enjoy and have fun. Dive in and get wet....
