Thanked: 2That I do understand! I was under the impression that G&F was getting better in terms of quality.

Thanked: 2They look good. I'm thinking part of the problem is the steel is too soft. If so, a little hardening and tempering should fix it, provided it doesn't warp the blade.

Perhaps we can help clear up any concerns by saying this:
Older/Original G&F straight razors:
"GOOD"
Newly made G&F straight razors:
"BAD"
If you are looking at G&F straights or PUMA straights and do not know how to tell the older/original models from the newly made please ask here on the forum. The members who do know the difference will steer you in the right direction. : )Last edited by lz6; 04-15-2014 at 04:22 PM.

Thanked: 2What I might do is get one, as an experiment, and try a few tricks I've learned from gunsmiths to harden the steel a little so it'll take and hold an edge better.

Thanked: 634I keep reading and it seems that I must have the only modern g&f that hones well and shaves well. I honed mine on a 6k Japanese wet stone then a 12k oil stone finish on strop. It requires no more maintenance than any of my other razors. I touch them all up at the same time and get close comfortable shaves out of them all. Guess I am lucky.

Could it be the 12k oilstone?"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

I'm not clicking on that video, my lunch was good going down, I don't think it would be as good coming up.
Could not stand anything about the guy, especially his white bucks, as if he wasn't white enough........I'll go with Elvis's gold sports coat.......or in my part of the world whom I saw in a roadhouse in Maryland, Link Wray.
