Default My girlfriend is sick of me bangin on about razors

Hi everyone, I have been browsing this forum for a month or so now, and it has help quite a lot in my attempts to find out a bit more about the history of some of the razors I have collected over time, and cleaned and lightly restored but never really used at all untill quite recently.
I am a carpentry student and have for some time had a love of good old English steel, any and all woodworking tools especially old chisels, but recently this love of old steel has branched out to straight razors.... I just love the simple and beautiful designs and how they changed over the decades and centurys,
Anyway this brings me back to the title of this "thread", when it was just tools I used in the shed, I think she could cope with it but now it has extended to the bedroom and the bathroom, (female territories ) ((sorry)) , I have gone too far it seems and I am harshly silenced every time I utter a word about "the quality of this blade" ect
I have NEVER joined or posted on ANY forum so I dont even know what I am doing or if I am writing this to who/where/how but I will just see what happens lol

Anyway thanks for all the info and it is nice to see that I am not alone, and there are people out there who appreciate the beauty of good old steel and the art of proper shaving... (I cant believe how nice it felt to use a proper straight razor instead of the clipper (meant for cutting head head) and cheap plastic disposables I had got used to shaving with)

Rant over, if I figure this out I will perhaps post some pics of a few old razors that I cannot seem to find much/any info on
Cheers guys all the best, George

    Welcome to the madhouse.

Now that RAD seems to have set in (Razor Acquisition Disorder).
And since you probably already have HAD from the chisels (Hone Acquisition Disorder).

I will just leave this link here and walk away all innocent like.

I can sympathize completely. If there is any topic that is currently holding my wife's interest I am obligated to listen to hours and hours of her picking it apart from every possible angle. And any attempt on my part to change the subject or, God forbid, show a lack of interest is an invitation to hear a speech about how unsupportive I am and how important these things are to her. Consequently, any mention of this interest on my part is swiftly met with the rolling of her eyes and the admission that she has no understanding of why anyone would want to be involved with this. Its a double standard that I've come to live with since we are rapidly approaching hockey season and my own double standard is about to kick in. And my double standards (in this case) is less negotiable than hers. LOL

Hey George and welcome to the forum. Let me tell you that I am blessed with a very tolerant wife but she has the ability to ignore things I say while talking about razors while still looking mildly interested. I lucked out there. The same tolerance extents to my various acquisition disorders so long as I keep thing neat and tidy. So I try to accommodate her there. Hope you continue to enjoy your wet shaving experience.

Welcome to SRP, George. You've found the right place to encourage your passion for straight razors. Probably best to keep the straight talk here for the SWMBO's sake. Good luck!

So now your going to be "banging on about razors" to us. This won't help with your gf at all. Wait till you see the looks you get when you try to talk to her about what so and so said on the razor forum. (From a post on another site about spouse issues)--"Are you talking to your little buddies on Raccoons and Razors?"

    Welcome to the club.

Uh boy. Stick a fork in 'im. He's done.

Welcome George. You'll find yourself in good company of other gentlemen suffering from your ailment.

    A gentleman's tastes and a tell-the-world enthusiasm!

    Best,
    Simon

Get as much out of system as possible on here and even better try to find someone else local to you that also uses a straight, possibly some form of RAD or HAD support/enabler group.........

That's why I come on here. Immoral support ! My wife said if any more packages show up while I'm away at work they are going straight to the trash o boy she better put it on top of the trash because I'm going dumpster diving for my naniwa 3/8 combo stone and mwf soap otherwise

Same here, my gf likes the fact that I do restorations on razors and strops, but she doesn't understand why I have more than 100 straight razors in my collection.
You can only shave with one she said...
When I talk about a new hone or straight she gives me the rolling eyes. Then again, you learn to live with it.
As long as there is no fighting because of it, I'm happy.
