One tip a friend of mine gave me was keeping a large glass of water with ice cubes within reach. He would dip the blade in from time to time. Often actually .......

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Yeah, that was one reason I do it at my kitchen sink!

Here's an Otto Deutsch Hans that went on eBay today but I had no intention of trying to bid on it. To me it was too far gone. It can be restored but with cut marks on the scales & a rusty blade, it would never come out as nice as mine. You can see it here:
Otto Duetsch Straight Razor Hans Inlaid Logo | eBay
It sold for $35.50 plus $5.95 shipping & had a rusty blade & cuts in the scales! I got mine for $39.00 free shipping & I'm glad I got it because the outcome went well. For those of you that don't know about these, newbies especially, the scales are prone to cell rot & will cause a blade to rust as well. There are others as well like Dubl Ducks & maybe a few more that will gas up & the scales will start deteriorating & eat the blade up. They are good to have if they are well cared for but that's no guarantee. It is always best to keep any you own away from the rest of the herd to keep other razors from getting ruined. I'm still glad I got the one I did but I don't think I would have ever tried for the one that sold today! I'm afraid the scales had started gassing on it & had already started taking its toll on the blade. If you ever think about buying one of these, make sure it is in pretty good condition before bidding on it. I saw that the blade had no rust spots on mine so I took a chance on it. There are a few members on here that restore these type of razors & 10Pups is one of them. I forget the others but someone might chime in & mention them.
