Arsenico, I applaud your work in interpreting for the members here. Thank You.

I have some old razor strops from Japan which arrived with covers over them. Much is written upon the strops and also the covers. Well worn, yet in wonderful condition, these strops are a pleasure to use. While 'Yamamoto' is written upon them in English and I suppose also in Kanji, Some more info upon them would prove interesting to me. I also have a razor which belonged to Yamamoto.
The seller told me they are vintage 1967 and 1966.
May I post pictures and request an interpretation?
    Fine Regards,
    Tom

Here is also a good webpage I found that is helpful when looking to purchase a stone. This is obviously not a complete list and can be obtuse at times but it is a good place to learn the basics.

    Hello. Nice finds.
The first one it is wtitten ENGLAND STEEL、 特上 High Grade 登録 Trade Mark 井上藤助 kamisori. I can't see the this kanji (作) which stands for "made"
The last 2 kanji might be the point, but they are very difficult to read, a closer pic might help.

On the second kamisori it is only written "razor" or "laser" or "leather" レーザ. They have a similar pronunciation in japanese..
So it is quite difficult to understand who is the maker.

    Hope this helps.

It says; "Most likely from the hands of Kanayama. Property of Tom. If found, please return"
Seriously, Lovely strop, Bob! Here is the Kanji on one of mine. Some of it looks like yours? Any one know anything of Tokyo Strop? Popo?
I do know Kanayama made and stamped strops for many. For money. Back in the day.

    Hello.
First of all I forgot to write the reading of this 井上藤助, in post #27 but you should know these kanji now INOUE TOSUKE ...

So here we have the same group of kanji.
The first strop has 3 more kanji, but basically the whole meaning is the same.
    Let's see them in detail
The group of kanji in blue are the one on lz6's strop and not on sharptonn's one

    耐水研磨仕上 検定所 検査済

    耐水 (TAISUI) water resistant, waterproof
    研磨 (KENMA) grinding, polishing
    仕上 (SHIAGE) finishing, final touch
検定所 (KENTEIJO) inspection centre, official certification centre
検査済 (KENSAZUMI) test finished, final inspection

So trying to give a meaning to all of this:
Finishing strop, water resistant, approved by an official inspection center (or something like that..)

    Hope this helps.

I also wanted to thank you all for the kind words.
And again, it is my pleasure to help. This is a big chance to learn something new also for me!
