Good luck. Seems the numbers started out meaning something and then, Zwillingswerk/Twinworks, had different numbers. Then, it's anyone's guess. 3 different renditions of a #50 are here.
I have several interpretations of a Henckels 66. All are way different! The tang stamps offer clues as to age.
Otherwise, who knows? Seems unknown!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Just picked this up off the bay and checking on when it might have been made.

That is a very old one, back into the 1800's, FME. Happy it was you who got it. I seem to have plenty!
Lovely razor!
Compare it to other #17's you see!Last edited by sharptonn; 05-06-2015 at 02:44 AM.

Thanked: 4827It was in my watch list too. I am having organizational challenges. I am trying to be on a hiatus from buying. I knew it was an early one had no idea it was that early. I have some more recent 17's here http://straightrazorpalace.com/misce...r-curl-up.html If you want any more pictures let me know.

I got the Henckel 17 today and it had a little surface rust which cleaned up fairly good. while cleaning the scales I noticed a pattern or design in them. I first thought they were horn. I now believe they are tortoise. I know that there are a few very small bug bites in the edges. after cleaning I didn't hone the razor I coated it in SRD razor oil and let some get on the scales . then wrapped in wax paper and put in a razor coffin. the scales were a little dry so i'm hoping some soaks in. I have done this before with horn and it helped and didn't hurt. I thought about taking a photo and will latter on but now just will wait and see.
