Thread: Esbjerg Straight Razor?

If Lynn or Don is reading this, I'd be happy to write a thoughtful and well-written testimonial if you'd like to send me a free Esbjerg.
jwy77 has a great point -- I'm sure SRD wouldn't carry them if they weren't good razors. But the question remains, are they a few hundred dollars better than my Ralf Aust or my Taylor Eyewitness?~Rob~

The Esbjerg's are some very nice looking razor's & i'm sure the quality is there since SRD sells them. I wouldn't mind having one some day!

I think I read that a member here called ulrik has been making some 6/8" + 8/8" razors for them. Have a look at his forum posts to check and see some of his stuff. Or I could just be completely imagining it.

Straight from the horse's mouth, or rather Esbjerg website:
'This straight razor is exclusively hand-made for us by Koraat-Knives. The roughly [sic] forged blade comes from Solingen.'

Thanked: 45If the blades are Koraat, I can certainly vouch for their quality. I have a Koraat 8/8 custom that is one hell of a razor and rivals ANYTHING in my collection.
It is funny that came up as I was looking at the pics of these razors last evening and noticed the turned "wedges" that look exactly like the one on my Koraat...which is the only other razor I have seen that has those.
Here is the wedge on my Koraat;

Thanked: 4942Hi Guys,
The fit and finish of these razors are wonderful! They are a heavy razor though, which for many is a very good thing. As far as shaving, maintaining and honing, they are definitely top notch!!
Have fun.

Yes it may be too big for my liking then. I like a 6/8 and may venture to a 7/8 for trying but I am so loving the likes of Ralf Aust and their prices I just would not venture beyond much.
Great and very informative write up and account.German blade snob!

Thanked: 45Hell of a review, and based on my experience with my Koraat 8/8, right on point across the board. I do differ in the "would I buy one" piece because....I did....lol.
I will say that the heft is a thing to take into consideration, and the feedback about feedback is right on point...you really don't get anything subtle as far as sound or feel goes....but I can say this...
I REALLY love mine. It is not part of my regular rotation because I wear a beard and an 8/8 can be a bit unwieldy (but it makes for an adventure!), but I have these randomly inter-spaced days where I look at mine and just say to myself, "to hell with the rotation" and grab it.
Also, the portions of this review saying that the blades are a work of art are 100% correct. I posted a brief review of my Koraat and feel exactly the same way. The details in the minutia are apparent in every part of these razor's craftsmanship.

Thank-you for the review - very informative.
Nice looking razor, price seems reasonable for what it is, but when you mention zero feedback, tactile of audible, I'm out...I like to have some feedback from my razors. If this razor was available as a hollow grind, even 1/2 hollow, I'd be far more interested.

I'm very impressed with them & I like Lynn's comment. SRD only sells quality products. No cheap quality things in their store! I have purchased from there & I will again, probably an Esbjerg Spanish point. They are of very high quality & appear to be well built.
