I hope for that reason none of you will take offense, but I feel a need to speak up. Portland Razor Company, with which I have NO relationship, even as a customer, is owned by a young entrepreneur who has an interest in producing quality, heavy grind razors at a reasonable price. I like that! There's a thread here from a year ago where he expresses that and takes some feedback and advice on his product, lots of which he has implemented. http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...nded-read.html.

But now the guy has testicular cancer and is undergoing chemo, while still making razors. I don't know about you, but if I found out I had cancer in my balls, I'm not sure how my time would be spent, other than praying and spending all my energy on fighting the disease. I say all of this merely to suggest that I don't know how far we need to go on a thread, which is now 6 pages, picking at scabs with his product INSTEAD of sending him an email if we own one we're not happy with or sending suggestions if you're a fellow artisan. That's the pre-internet way of dealing with quality (or preference) concerns, and it is still the "polite" and classy way, where I come from....and I consider most of you to be classy guys.

I'm not sure why this is under my skin, but let's give the folks at PRC a break, eh?!? Especially Scott (he is a fellow SRP member by the way).

If you are offended by this rant, PM me, but don't read my response if you're a sensitive person.
Exactly! Hit the nail on the head!

Read his posts before declaring his membership as a basis for your argument. There is a lot of validity in, and I am in agree with, most of your statements, but not that one. He has not registered as a vendor as required and he has not really participated as a member in any meaningful way other than for self-promotion. That is not an attack but that is the reality of his membership to date. I hope it changes. It might be nice to see him participate in the workshop section of the forum.

Look, nobody wants to pick on him while he is down, and medically he certainly is down. That does not change the fact that they, the company, are continuing to accept orders and collect full payment for those orders. As long as that continues, then I believe there is nothing wrong with the discussions that have occurred here.

I was in communication with them for several weeks before actually placing my order. I follow their blog to keep updated on their activities. The thread you linked to was in part what finalized my decision to purchase. So much for background . . .
My comments about the razor I received are an honest account from a Customer. Nowhere did I say I was unhappy. The word I used was disappointed, because it is a more accurate reflection of my feelings upon first unwrapping my razor. I also said the cosmetics were not the end of the world, in my eyes, and mentioned later that it was possibly the result of the rush to fulfill the backlog caused by Scott's illness. The reason I have not bothered to contact them about this is simple . . . For me, there is nothing to contact them about. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase (8/10, remember?), and I have sent Hunter an e-mail to tell him that. A solid shave tonight will garner another e-mail, as well as a positive comment on their blog. I would like nothing better than to see PRC succeed and, more importantly, for Scott to have successful treatment of his cancer. But this thread is just supposed to be an honest account of the product I received, and that is it. I am officially done with this nonsense, except for a final comment regarding tonight's shave. You folks have a good time without me.
Well, I tried voicing my opinion about another brand on a thread that went to an 8th page, and after doing so I was told I was wrong, that there was no way I could possibly have had that situation occur, and ultimately it was implied I had no idea what I was talking about. I also did not express any dissatisfaction and quite the contrary, expressed how and why I was pleased. That got me nowhere, so at this point while I am content to express my opinions about certain topics, I for one will not be posting any more reviews because there seems to be a group behind any given brand that wants to discredit one's opinion...be it positive or negative.

Just the nature of an online community but if people want an actual opinion, this may not be the place.

Which is the norm now days that people can hide behind a keyboard and claim to be experts in anything they wish to type on. I agree 100% about folks getting their feelings hurt of a product they so dearly love when one person or a few state that is not their experience. I like honest 100% feedback from the actual consumer bad or good and that leaves it up to me to jump in both feet or not.

Not sure nor would I speculate on Scott being active here or not and really could care less for that I don't think plays a big role in the scheme of things. I think Orville's and other's feedback to be relevant to an open discussion in a forum for sure. Blatant and obvious slander can usually be seen through in my experience.

I think Scott to be a great person to start a company and take a risk which is frought so much these days unlike that of many generations past given the uncertainties of the economy. I love the look of his razors............hence, I ordered one that I had him to do a few mods to for me. I can't wait to see it. I too, once it comes in will give my impression and if the rock throwers care to fling stones at me, well go for it.

The internet and forums like this for every hobby has made for a very informed consumer and has revolutionized the buying ability of the consumer. But like I stated, it has also created hostile environments when some person gets side ways from a comment too. Sad it does because in my line of work if I let comments offend me or hurt my feelings, every day I would be going head to head.

To Scott, a very quick and 100% recovery and don't hurry the razors for God's sake! Take the time to treat each one as your own. Just update your blog on PRC or here to show progress.......nothing like a consumer being in the dark after paying hard earned money for a product that is not in hand. That I take some offense to which I am sure most would. I believe Hunter to be the main man right now..............how about at the end of the week simply write a quick one liner of we are up to for instance "214 out of 323". That would take away alot of this uncertainty.

I am not talking about the post on this entire thread. I was referring to what Denver stated was his experience here. Hence why I quoted his post.

    No hostility from me!
I just think people should interact directly with the company providing the service before doing it publicly. Just seems better IMHO. But, YMMV.
I own ZERO PRC razors, by the way.

What I was getting at was he could have been PMd, but I agree, and that really wasn't the crux of my point. My point was perhaps misguided and none of my business. I justthrought that read from the beginning, once past Orville's honest "gee, it's ok, but not perfect" post, it had a few snarky comments. Maybe I was just in a bad mood. I'm 66 and occasionally cranky. (not a defense, a fact as my wife often reminds me)

    I'll butt out. I don't have a PRC razor.
