    That looks like it was a frameback at one time. A while back I bought a Joseph Rodgers & Sons with the same blade shape. I tried to hone it, had no luck, sent it to Glen (gssixgun) and he said it looked like it was a frameback and fixed it. You might contact him before doing anything to that one just to be on the safe side. Here is the link to see how he fixed it;

    This one wasn't really ever a frame back. The shape in the spine is there due to the fact that it originally came with a guard such as the one below:

    Yep! I forgot about the ones with the guard, it could be one of those too. Either way, as far as German razors go J.A. Henckels are real hard to beat.
