Oh and if I may (expose my cheap side), regarding the soap... You know, if I didn't know much about shaving products (or this one in particular) and my wife got me one of these:
Bol à Raser https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008156D..._mZ.awb9A75XS3
... I would love her forever more. I favor this soap over many MANY expensive options. The smell is a true barbershop, easy to make amazing lather, on the softer side and comes in its own plastic bowl. This right here is history, tradition and quality. Perhaps some of your fellow countrymen can suggest something locally made, with a tradition similar to Monsavon.... IF that's an issue at all (this is a French soap). To me personally, the origin makes no difference whatsoever... other than shipping of course. I linked from Amazon UK, but have a look on the US Amazon, maybe it's available.
I guess what I'm saying is, do get him a nice soap to go with the razor, but just for the heck of it, try to get your hands on one of these. He will not be disappointed.Last edited by Srdjan; 09-24-2015 at 02:04 PM.
As the time passes, so we learn.

Thanked: 3Okay, that makes total sense. I play a bowed instrument and the weight is not extremely important but if it is not balanced properly then it is worthless. You have to wrap silver wire and whale bone on the end to balance it out and the entire process turns into a dog and pony show.
I had not looked at Revisor. They are quite sleek little razors and look like what he already has. I have kind of fallen in love with the work of Jerry Stark, but now I am trying to figure out if they are me (if I was man) or something my husband would pick out.

Thanked: 3I like cheap. I have put it in my amazon basket. Thanks for the suggestion!
So, real talk, is the Floris soap any good? I only know about it because of http://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/ I have basically bought everything this website suggest that is under $300. I am running out of items!

Thanked: 44Just the fact that you show an interest is great. Keep reading up. You'll get a thousand different opinions here and every one will be well intentioned. That said, I have to agree with Wayne394. Considering the fact that you have no real savvy when it comes to razors, your best bet would be to contact Lynn, the guy who started this website and talk with him. I'm sure he'd be more than happy to sort you out with a great razor at a fair price and much simpler than listening to the rest of us waffle on about this razor vs that, blah blah blah. That said, if you don't want to contact Lynn, I still agree with Wayne 394, buy a Boker

I would go more for a production razor than a custom, unless you want to get your hubby involved in the design process, with a custom you can have whatever (within reason) you want and the more subtle nuances are something only he could really decide upon. It would be a shame to have the opportunity to have a custom razor and not have exactly what you(he) wanted.
Despite speaking for re visor I don't and haven't owned any of their razors but they are well regarded and have a nice range of products.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

It would probably take you over your 300 dollar budget. But if your going to stay with 5/8 or 6/8 production razors you could look at a cased pair.
